Post Op day #5
Oct 27, 2008
Back to work! The amazing thing is, the clothes that I wore last week are hanging off of me today..the not so great thing is, im a bit weak and probably need a bit more energy to get through the day. Being at home and just lounging on the couch didnt require too much of me, but here, it's a different story.
I've graduated up to full liquids, and nonfat yogurt. I'm still uncertain how to really eat, but I guess it will come in time.
Yipee!!!!

Post op day #3

ok so i missed out on 1 & 2...with good reason.. I felt like a truck ran over me twice!!!! all my muscles ached from the top of my shoulders down to the tops of my thighs.. not to mention that my abdomen was ten times more sore, i couldnt even laugh properly, but that's all behind me now...
still on clear liquids, i guess i have to start full liquids sometime, but its scary for me to think about it...living on jello and tea isnt too bad
i guess i should start from the begining... ive been fat mostly all my life, it was always cute, until it became morbidly obese...I tried it all, jenny, nutri, ww, the stupid fad diets..but it never really worked...and up until june 2008 i really didnt care. I was in pretty good health, the only real complaint was an achy knee, but then a blood test came back that I was diabetic! HgbA1c =8.2! The world crashed in and I started imagining what the future held for my health....I'm a nurse practitioner and i've seen what diabetes could do to you up close and personal, I was damned if that ever happened to me...
i went to my community hospital, where thankfully, they have a wonderful bariatric surgery department...we did all the necessary tests, psych, echo etc... then the insurance said NO WAY!!!... you need 6 months of medically supervised attempts at weight loss... AY YAYAYAYAYA!!!!! I figured ok, I can do this.. my pmd had other ideas... I should just try dieting again, he said...
lucky for me, i work in an institution that is big on research and clinical trials... the obesity center advertised their new clinical study on the TOGA procedure (transoral gastroplasty) the best part...no incisions!!! it's all done endoscopically! the bad thing, its a clinical trial and i might be part of the "control group".
the worst part of the whole procedure was the different diagnostics.. the manometery was a killer (traumatic too), not to mention the barium swallow..nasty!!! but overall i'm not any worse for wear.
so, i'm 3 days post op...not hungry, having my fluids and due for my followup in 2 weeks!
