Cindy, You are one smart woman. One of the very first things that my surgeon tells new pre-ops at his informational meeting is that this surgery will not solve any of your problems, except it can help with one. Overeating is the only thing that can be helped. All your other problems, be they emotional, financial, or whatever, are still gonna be there, fat or thin. You need to get help for your emotional issues, apart from WLS, because you recognize that at any weight, you were not happy. I've suffered with depression my whole life, and now that I've solved the weight problem, I still have the depressive nature, and believe it or not, not being able to stuff bad feelings down with food, has forced me to reevaluate how to deal with bad feelings. Medication and counselling helps tremendously. I am so happy to be normal-sized and healthier, but all my emotional demons are still there, and new ways to deal with them are being developed. It's good you're asking these questions of yourself, and would be even better to go to talk to someone, if you can. Good luck to you.

Cindy, That is really a good question. I sit back and think about that all the time. Depression is what drove me to eat but as I got bigger, it was more and more difficult to lose. Almost every year for the past five years, I went up a dress size. Before I knew it, I was sitting comfortably in a size 24. I hope that after the surgery, I can put all the sad feelings in the past and move forward.

Cindy, I would encourage you to check with your insurance at least 1X per week. Try to find one person to keep calling and be a bull dog. I've received a denial and believe me, I'm not giving up, so keep up the fight and never give up! God Bless, Jeanette

Hi Cindy - I am in Mobile, AL and my surgery is 7-23. I had to wait almost 2 months to find out about approval. I had to keep telling myself "if it's meant to happen, it will" - Hang in there! Elise L
