I am 31 years old, I have been married for almost 11 years and we have 3 wonderful children, ages 2, 4, and 6!  As far back as I can remember I was trying to diet.  I have made up plenty of diets, for exapmle a workout I did at home plus only skittles and protein, pretty stupid huh?  Anyway, after I got married I had problems with my thyroid (I weighed 155 on my wedding day, after using Phen/Fen for 2 months).  After my thyroid problems seemed to be fixed, I was just gaining weight no matter what I did.  I have done the Six Week Body Makeover, The Cabbage Diet, The Almased diet, Kimkins, Weight Watchers, Medifast, Atkinds, Body For Life and many others that I have forgotten.  While some worked for a little while, as soon as I ate more than 1000 calories a day, I would put all the weight back on...like banging my head on the wall over and over again.  In 2003, when my oldest was only 1, my new md suggested WLS, but at the time my insurance had ALL weightloss treatments excluded from the policy.  So 4 years, 2 kids and 1 miscarriage later I have new insurance and asked my new pcp to refer me.  He was against WLS and had many little thoughts that he thought he should share with me, all of them were negative!  he referred me anyway.  I had my first appointment with the surgeon on 8-20-08, had ALL my preop testing done in September and had my 2nd appt. with the surgeon on 10-10-08.  I had lost the required amount of weight by using Medifast, so my surgery was scheduled!  I cannot believe that in a little while that I will have lost all the weight that has been sticking to me for the past 11 years!  My moment that made me realize I HAD to do surgery if I wanted to live and shre my life with my family was this past Summer.  I was getting a haircut and looked in the mirror and did not recognize myself, it was pretty sad!  I cannot wait for my surgery (11-25-08) and to begin using this tool to get back to me.  My husband is WONDERFUL and is SO supportive and has and will continue to do all he can to help me.  My HW on my surgeons appt. was 315.  Right now I am on day 2 of my 2 week liquid diet and I weighed 287.  Please feel free to ask me any questions you have.  I have done SO much research and have personally known people who have gone throught this surgery, some successful and some not.  Good luck on your journey and remember, Just Keep Swimming!
