Two months out and I have lost 33 pounds (68 since this journey started) Most of my clothes do not fit, I've taken in most of my career items (dresses, skirts) but actually went out and bought a few tops and a pair of jeans. I was able to buy off the rack in the Misses (ya it was 18-20) but I haven't been able to wear that size for 15 years. I brought up some clothes from my skinny days and most of them had to be given away because they were too big! The jeans I bought two weeks ago (a little tight) are now almost too loose! My friends have told me not to buy anything new, just go to the second hand store because you don't get to wear items long enough to be worth the cost. How right they are! I've got to step up my exercising. My arms and upper thighs are getting really flabby. Both my girls have committed to being my partner and helping me go for walks and use the weights. We took our bikes in and had them serviced so now no excuses for not riding as a family. Had a real problem with throwing up this last week. Called the surgeon. She had me start over on clear liquids and then work back into softs and no beef, pork, just moist chicken in very limited quantities. That helped settle my stomach, but in the process I have found I am eating more carbs because they stay down. Plataued for two weeks and then called the nutritionist. NO CARBS! GET MORE PROTEIN! My sample packs came in. Most of what I have tried is really awful! I have found that my tastes have changed. I actually can tolerate cottage cheese, spicy items, tomatoes. I was never a big pop drinker, but find I miss having a 7-up or pepsi at certain times (movies, game night or sick)

1 month post op

Had my first doctor's appointment one month from surgery. I couldn't believe it - I had lost 18.9 pounds with limited exercising. Getting my protein up is a must. I'm only getting about 20-30 grams and need 90. I will try some different protein drinks and see what I can tolerate. My life seems back to normal, being Mom, wife and career. Just having to learn how to eat and what to eat. Find myself getting to empty and then sick. Must learn to have food in my purse, car, work etc. Drinking water is still hard, but have found Special K protein water and really like that. Trying to eat meats and still not successful. Mostly still eat soft food.

Day of Surgery

May 06, 2009

March 3, 2009

I started my weight loss process in August, weighing in at my heaviest of 338. I had to loose weight before surgery, which was very difficult. But made it! Passed all the tests with flying colors and have insurance approval. Scheduled the surgery date March 3. Very scary! Wondered what I was doing to myself. Came out of recovery o.k. - they kept me medicated for the 1st 24 hours because of the pain, but the next day started walking and kept walking every couple hours. Able to eat and drink ok, but water is hard to swallow and get down.  Discharged on my 3rd day. Stayed the weekend with my sister to be close to the hospital because we live so far away. Struggle with nausau, but alcohol wipes help tremendously.  Stayed at home for 5 days recouperating and then went back to work full time. Still a little tired in the evenings and uncomfortable sleeping flat, but overall keeping food down and feeling inches coming off, but not alot of weight.
