2 months out from RNY I thought my scale was broken!

Jul 31, 2010

Hello everyone.  I got on the scale yesterday and I literally thought the scale was broken.  I lost 5 pounds all in the same day!  I had RNY on May 25th, the weight has steadily come off.  I was 286 way back in January, 271 on day of surgery and yesterday I was 215.  Holy Mackerel this is fun.  I only wish I had done it years ago.  My birthday is Sept 5th and I would dearly love to be under 200 pounds by then.  Wish me luck.  The weight loss is just happening seemingly no matter what I do.  I am sticking pretty darn close to exactly what they told me to eat and keeping the fluids separate from the meals and all that.  It so works.  Just so happy and wanted to share.  Wooooohooooo!!

Exciting New Adventure

Jun 25, 2010

This is so exciting this new adventure I'm on.  Last winter I was 286 pounds and feeling so miserable.  I was working my way through the hoops to have gastric bypass surgery.  I had tried everything over the years and the weight just kept coming back on.  Finally, I had such medical problems, gastric reflux, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, chronic fatigue, severe arthritis in back and one knee, lack of mobility, to name just a few.  I felt like my quality of life was going down the drain.  I needed a wheelchair to cross an airport.  When friends decided to walk a few blocks to a restaurant, I couldn't do it, or if I did it was agony.  There was no quality of life, it all centered around pain and discomfort.  Its hard to think back on how that was.  I will never be there again.  I thank God every day.  As part of my weight loss program and training pre-op I lost 26 pounds.  There was about a 10 pound discrepancy between my scale and the doctor's, pretty typical.  I got a new scale that is pretty close to the doctor's.   On day of surgery I weighed in at 271.  I am now, one month from surgery at 227.  Woohooo!!!  I feel so great.  And it will just keep getting better.  I am educated, trained, and practiced in my new way of eating.  I am working out at a gym to maintain my muscle mass.  This is all soooooo good.  I feel like I am slowly (and sometimes not so slowly :) ) getting my life back.  What a wonderful feeling.

One month post op tomorrow - amazing.

Jun 24, 2010

I can't believe its one month tomorrow since my surgery.  I lost 26 pounds before surgery.  I have been out of town for 6 days and had been on a few days of a plateau before I left.  I got on the scale today and I lost 7 pounds while I was gone!!! for a total of 42 pounds since surgery and a grand total of 68 pounds.  This is all since March 9th.  I am so pleased as you can imagine.  This last Monday I got to get off the pureed diet officially!  I was transitioning myself already as I could not stand the pureed food any more.   The nutritionist is wonderful and very supportive.  She gives me great ideas and lots of support.  I just wanted to share my one month news with everyone and again thanks for all of your support.  Cindy

Support is unbelievable thank you everyone

Jun 13, 2010

Hi.  I am 19 days out from RNY surgery.  I am doing well.  Still on pureed diet, for 8 more days until transition diet, thank goodness.  I have had good days and bad days.  The bad days seem to be my own fault when I don't stick to the exact list of foods or don't puree (when I think I can chew things small enough but I can't) or don't get enough walking in (and then gas kills me).  So overall, I'm great.  Lost 26 pounds before surgery, had surgery on May 25th at 271 and now at 19 days out am 237.  Yay!!!  I'm happy, happy.  The weather finally quit raining here is Seattle, sun is shining, life is good.  My oldest daughter made me two kinds of soup to puree yesterday, bless her heart.  Variety is sooooo good.  I have been blessed with a lot of support, I am so grateful every day.  I feel like the training beforehand was absolutely excellent.  I was really ready.  I can't say enough about Dr. Bock and his team.  I just felt like writing a note today that has no problems, just happiness, and positive spirit.  I'm sure there will still be bumps in the road ahead.  Take care everyone.

Hard to Stick to Pureed Foods the first month post op

Jun 08, 2010

Wow, how boring pureed foods are.  But I must stick with it because I pay for it big time if I don't.  Any ideas for helping pureed foods tast better?  I had RNY on May 25th.  Doing well in general.  Mega tired, know from posts here that it goes away.

Had RNY on Tues 5/25

May 29, 2010

4 days post op and feeling great.  Trying to get a schedule established with pureed foods, liquids, and meds.  Not too much pain, just enough to have to take pain meds a couple times a day, that's all.  REALLY happy I made this decision.   Have lost 20 pounds since my weight that I checked in on day of surgery.  Found out my scale at home was all screwy.  Months ago was highest at 286 at doctors office.  Now on new scale at home am 251, sweet.
