I was always thin growing up. I weighed 134 lbs when I married in 1988. I didn't really gain weight until after having my 2nd child in 1992 and then gained more with the third child in 1998 and was not really able to loose any of it.
Then began the diet cycle. I tried over 11 years to loose the weight and was only sucessfull at any small weight loss (20 to 40 lbs) for a short time until I went back to old habits and gained it all back plus a few more pounds. The last 2-3 years saw me actually putting on more and more weight every year with no end in sight.
It took me several years to get the courage to pursue weightloss surgery. Everyone in my family told me it was too risky and that too many people they knew had gained weight back. However, several co-workders had weightloss surgery and were very successful in achieving their weightlos. I knew my insurance would cover it if I could get the neccessary approval.
Being 100+ pounds overweight and the increased health and emotional problems that were afflicting me daily was my true motivation! I was depressed and wanted my life back, a life that I could enjoy as a thin, healthy and active person.
I had a sleeve gastrectomy on Aug 17th, 2009. My weight prior to surgery topped out at 256 lbs. My goal is to be under 150 lbs and maintain that weight with an active lifestyle. While writing this post, I am only 9 days post op, with a long way to go. I am looking forward to the jouney with much expectancy...like watching a new life bloom before my eyes... and it's MINE! I can't wait!
