I have battled with my weight for the majority of my life. I was a larger than average teenager, though 20/20 hindsight looking at pictures I was not at all chubby. Comments made by close family members caused my self-esteem issues. As everyone knows.. this typically leads to stuffing your feelings with your favorite foods till you feel better. Apparently, it took me a long time to feel better!
I am married to a wonderful man who has loved me in every size or shape. When he met me I was a voluptuous size 20 (at age 16) and by our engagement I made it to a svelt size 13/14 ~ this was not through dieting - my mom claims it was because he was one of those men that makes your heart go pitterpat and must have helped me burn off all the lbs! We have three beautiful children. My family has truly been my rock throughout this journey - for this I am thankful!
I have researched Gastric Bypass for the last 2 years. I have two close friends that had the surgery (1 dystal and 1 medial) and at least 10 colleagues who have gone through the same experience. By reading on my own and watching their personal journey including the speedbumps that can happen (malnutrition, vitamin deficiency *one friend did not take the best of care of herself!) and witnessing their successful results I came to the conclusion that this was the right decision for me to finally gain control of my life!!
