My name is Brian and this is my life. I was born on November 25, 1957. I have been overweight most of my life. When I was in sixth grade a doctor put me on some kind of medicine that made me lose 70 pounds, but I couldn't sleep at nights. My mother found out that the doctor was practicing medicine even after losing his license. After getting off the meds I gained back over 100 pounds. I have tried many of the diets out there but none have seemed to help.
The major problems seemed to start in 1996 when I was about 300 pounds. I had two operations on my right wrist for the same torn ligament that never healed right. In 1997 I went for a nerve block in my neck to try and find out what was causing my problems with my right arm and hand. I came down with an infection in my neck and after being on antibiotics for twelve weeks I had to have my c5 - c6 bones fused together. In 1998 I had a pinched nerve repaired in my right elbow, but still have nerve damage from all the operations. My weight has gotten so out of control as of late ( now at 484 pounds) that I see this as a last resort. I know a few people that have had the RNY surgery done and they are doing quite well. I suffer from mild hypertension, sleep apnea, and mild high cholesterol.
My mother had severe diabetes, heart trouble, and other major problems the last twenty years of her life. I remember many days and nights being up with her constantly without getting any sleep.
I am divorced and share custody of my three kids who are now 18, 17, and 14. I wish that I could have been more active with them growing up. This is the reason that I am looking forward to having the surgery done; so I can become a dad to them all over again.
As of right now I have to lose about 60 pounds before I have the surgery done. Wish me luck!!!
