I had WLS on April 14, 2008. Dr. Syn, Lubbock, Texas was the surgeon. He is terrific. Covenant Hospital was the place. So-so. Most days the care was great, one day it was horrid. I shouldn't have been there more than one day, but had a bleeder that went undetected for 24 hours and basically bled out. Had to have 8 units of blood before the bleeder self-corrected. So was there for 5 days wondering and waiting to see if we had to go back in for corrective surgery. Thank God we didn't.

I'm 5 weeks out now, have lost about 40 pounds and 3 sizes in clothes! YEAH!

Energy level is starting to come back, though still hit a hard spot around 2 in the afternoon.  But recoup within 30 minutes and can continue with my day.

I've been on solid food now for about a week and a half and so far haven't had any problems. Still keep the portions to under 2 ounces. Because of the low iron in my blood, whether due to normal side effects to the surgery or the blood loss - don't know, I'm eating a lot of red meat to bring that level up. I eat about 1 1/2 ounces of meat and a little bit of vegetables every two hours - six times a day.

That's a lot to eat, especially when you aren't hungry in the least.
