Hello all! I am a 30 year old overweight female and I am in the beginning stages of the WLS process. I have two appointments scheduled in May; one is to see a dietician and the other is to see the surgeons assistant. The lady who scheduled my appointment explained to me that these two providers (and a psychologist) would have to all come to an agreement that I am a good candidate for weight loss surgery.
I am a little nervous. Number one, they have to see if my insurance (CIGNA PPO) will approve and also I'm worried that they will not think that I am a candidate for WLS. Although I am overweight I am also healthy. I have no illnesses or ailments. I am 5ft 7inches and weigh 260lbs. My friends tell me that I won't be approved because I'm not sloppy fat. I agree, I love my curves but my curves are beginning to turn into obstacle courses. I love my shape but my shape is just too large. My husband always tells me how sexy I am (and he should!) but I'm doing this for me and to make sure that I do not acquire any of the many illnesses associated with obesity that would take away from the time I have with my two boys (ages 4 and 9).
I have a close friend who a year ago underwent Gastric Bypass surgery. Although she is o.k. and looks wonderful, I think that that surgery is a bit too drastic for me. I just want something that will help me to control my appetite. After doing research on the different WLS's available, the LAP-Band seemed to be the most sensible for me.
Well, that's my story. I will be praying and hoping that this process goes as smooth as possible. God bless you all!
