Staying on track
May 03, 2014
Using a personal trainer for the last 4 months has been a great tool to help in losing the weight. Since exercising and being accountable to someone that is not family, I have been on a consistent pattern. I recommend that if you have the resources to hire someone as a trainer to do so. I am still 40 lbs or so from my goal weight, but feel that it is achievable in the next 6 to 7 months.
Surgery update -
Jan 26, 2014
My RY surgery appears to have been much different that some others I have met in group sessions. I had no pain after surgery, no dumping, seem to be able to eat any foods I try without issues, except now my sense of smell and taste are even more sensitive. This could be a problem, since I was already a novice chef. I really have learned to listen to my body and not my mind about eating. I don't have a craving a desire to eat seconds, keeping a small portion per serving instead of overloading the plate twice. If asked if I would do this surgery again. the answer is a resounding yes. I recommend getting involved in a support group early and maintaining the relationships to learn all you can. Changing habits is much easier with support.
3 Months since surgery
Jan 26, 2014
Now that it has been 3 months since my RY surgery, I am updating some information. First I am now 255lbs. 70 lbs more to come off. The holidays and travel for work have not been an issue finding the right things to eat and I seem to actually want to get exercise. In early December I started going to a gym and made sure I signed up with a personal trainer. After explaining that my goal was to continue losing weight and build muscle up to reduce the amount of hanging skin I will have, he made a great program for me. I get extensive one on one with "Guy" really his name, weekly, then work on my own the rest of the week. Every week we focus on a different muscle group with him, then I work the others throughout the week with 72 hour rest per muscle group and cardio daily. It is exciting to see the weight come off and not feel like stopping at Mcdonalds just because it is there. I will update this post on a more timely basis going forward.

Finally received insurance approval and completed all pre-op tests. Excited and ready to get to surgery. It seems like it has been more than 10 months since I made the decision to move forward. I have been on the liquid diet for about 1 week now in preparing for the day. What a wild week, it seems like everyday we are invited to go out to eat with friends or family. Including a birthday party at a restaurant 2 days ago (we went and I drank water and some cranberry juice). I made sure my family new ahead of time I would not be eating. I have had to decline invitations for other offerings since I have not told too many people about my surgery and don't plan on it either. I feel this is a personal decision in my life and need to keep it positive.
Most of my family seem to OK with my decision and all are there to support me on my choice.
In the last week I have dropped another 10 pounds.
