"One example: After passing my post-op barium swallow test, I was abandoned in a remote hallway unattended for 25 minutes until I literally started yelling for someone to come help me. I had complications from the surgery, and the internal bleeding left me nauseous and dizzy. I feel that post-op patients should be returned to their room after tests OR if they must be left in hallways be given some sort of means of contacting nursing staff for help. I felt very unsafe. Another example when I felt very vunerable was having to wait for 2 1/2 hours for nauseau medication because the nurse felt I should try other methods, including walking in the hall - this despite being on bedrest orders and BPs ranging in 90s/50s. These are just two examples of many more that I could give."
"My initial appointment was with Dr. Gould. Drs. Gould and Garren perform these procedures together.
To say I was impressed is an understatement. From the friendly people at the front desk, the dietician who thoroughly, positively, and carefully explained pre-op, post-op, and long-term nutricional needs, and lastly, the surgeon himself, I walked away with a very positive outlook.
Dr. Gould took significant time to explain, in a manner that I understood, surgical options, operative risks, their statistics for problematic outcomes, what they were, and how they handled it. It is clear to me that they do not perform these surgeries lightly, and respect the risks involved.
I feel that I have a better grasp on what I am pursuing to undergo and therefore increased incentive to begin preparing for the procedure by increasing my physical activity, eating more slowly as they recommended, and eating a healthier diet overall.
I appreciate that Dr. Gould covered how I might expect to feel following the surgery, and how his office is available.
Obesity.help's site asks if I have anything negative to say as "completely 100% positive reviews are generally less informative or even suspect." I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this initial visit.
Dr. Gould even explained the next step: he will prepare a letter for my insurance company for pre-authorization and that both of us would receive the response at the same time. Once authorization is obtained, surgery would be scheduled. He took a lot of time to explain procedures, anticipated outcome, etc. I am very appreciative. "
