Post-Op Update One 10/07/09
Oct 06, 2009
Well it's offically been 2 weeks post-op as of yesterday Tuesday 10/6/09. I have to say this has all been a very good expereiance starting with the arival to the hospital on 9/22 for my early mornign surgery appointment. It was a simple case of going into the pre-op room, getting set with the gown and Iv and meetign the anatheiologist and a quick visit by Dr. M to go over teh game plan. Last Thing I remembered was the doc telling me they woudl start my relaxing medicine and starting to wheel me away and then i woke up in recovery room.
Of course i was still on the pain meds but no pain liek i expected to feel upon wakign up. My heartrate was a bit high so I needed to stay in the recovery room until that went down and then it was off to ICU for my first nighst stay. I have a CPAP machine so ICU stay is mandatory. ICU was great and I was ready to get my walkign in however they said not to rush it and wait until i go to my own room the next day.
Next day found me in my own lakeside room and i was soon out makign laps in around teh 3rd floor. The staff of Nurses was very encourgaing and tellign me what I great job i was doing. i rather enjoyed the stay and wouldnt have been dissapointed if they said I had to stay an extra day but in fact I was good to go home the next day and start life anew in the real world.
Besides the dietary part life has been normal at home with me getting in my daily amount of exercising and going thru the motions. I had one small setback in which i might have caused a little muscle tear from a stitch from overdoign it a little which is one big point to keep in mind as far as not trying to rush things.
Food wise I am at the pureed stage and trying to work up to my 50-75g of daily protein as well as staying hydrated with the water needs. Getting my daily allowances of the vitamin supplements and exercise. Looking forward to getting back to the gym but know better now to not jump the gun and face a setback from my eagerness.
Weight wise i started off at 422, did teh pre-op liquid diet and went down to 398, had my offical weigh in at Dr.M's office a week post op which had me down to 374 and will be returning on 10/22 for another 2-3 week post-op appointment. There is a difference of about 8 pounds in between my home scales and teh doc's office ones with me weighing in this morning (10/07) at 359 on my home scales. Goal will be to get down to 350 by time of next appt on the offical scales.

Here We Go !

Back at getting some serious weight off with WLS!
Didn't have a great experience last time with my previous medical team however no major weight loss in the past 4 years and the clock is ticking so it's time to try it yet again.
No looking back this time!
