Well, here I am. Soon to be 47 and at a weight I cannot manage.
I have always been heavy - okay when I was three years old I was a normal weight - but those pictures of me when I am 4 show the problem began very early. Always fighting weight and losing. Every diet known on earth from the soup diet to weight watchers to drugs. Any results were short term. When I was 40 it really started coming on. In June of 07 I went to the doctor. Their scales went to 350 and they couldnt get my weight. Had to be the most humiliating moment in my life. I cried in the exam room for 30 minutes.
I had been playing with the idea of GBS for a couple of years but mostly just reading, watching for information and learning from those I knew had the surgery. The "visit" set me on the path.
I have to be honest and say that insurance approval was not a problem. I was approved shortly after the paper work was submitted. I actually didn't realize it had been submitted yet and the doctors office called to let me know two weeks ago. So I am set for 1/30/08.
I have been back and forth about the idea of this procedure but the closer it gets, the more at ease I feel. I am not excited yet. I think that will come - I just have to get thru that initial phase of surgery and seeing that this tool will work.
Today was the diet and nutrition class and it was intense and lasted for 3.5 hrs. I did find a buddy there. We even switched our surgery times! She was scheduled much later than me and I live farther away so we switched and it worked out great for both of us!
I go for pre op on 1/21 and thennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
So,  thank you for this group I have found as I know your support will be critical to my success!
