I am new to the WLS concept. I am 32 years old and have struggled with weight my entire life. I was always active as a teen (swimming, water polo, wresting) etc. but I could never really lose weight I was 181 all through school.

In high school I ran a cross this "Lose 10 pounds in 3 days" diet. Did it for 3 months straight and lost about 40 pound. As soon as I stopped I gained it back.

In college I weighted about 225 and started to just accept my weight. And for awhile it actually worked to my advantage. I worked as a plus size model for a few years and did some TV work. That was great for awhile but then I found it harder and harder to get work and it was always the "skinny" girls getting all the work.

In my mid 20's I did the Adkins Diet and that really worked for me. I lost about 60 pounds and was relentless about sticking to the program. One day I went to visit a family friend for a few days and the entire time I was at her house she hounded me about how unsafe the diet was and basically forced me to eat. After that weekend it was really hard to get back on track again and I gave up and gained it all back.

When I got pregnant with my daughter I weighted 289, this was the largest I have ever been. I had the most awful pregnancy ever and was sick 24/7, vomiting 10-15 times per day. It got so bad that I was unable to keep down water and the last month of my pregnancy was spent in the hospital on feeding tubes until I was induced. loosing close to 50 pounds and weighted 239 when I delivered.

This was 4 years ago and I have been lucky to have kept it all off without doing anything really. I am now going through a divorce and will soon be without medical insurance. I have talked with my "shrink" about this several times and he suggested that If I'm going to do WLS it's best I do it now before my insurance ends since my current insurance will cover the surgery at no cost to me...not even a co-pay

And so this starts my WLS journey!
