47 lbs!!!

Oct 27, 2010

As of 10/22, I have lost 47 lbs!
It feels wonderful! I now have space between me and the steering wheel, so I have to learn how to drive again.
I went to my cardiologist on the 25th, and the nurse asked me if I was okay. "You've lost 20 lbs in the last month." What a rush!!!
I'm setting a goal of 100 lbs by my birthday, (3/24) and if I make it, (I will) I need to think of something to reward myself with.
I have finally figured out that nasty feeling I get from sweet and sour sauce is dumping. It's not as severe as some have experienced, but, it's bad enough to avoid it ever again!!
Yuk!!!

joined the undead

Oct 09, 2010

On October 6, I had a pacemaker implanted for a sloooooow heartrate ranging into the 20s and 30s. My heart was dying. I'm surprised I was able to function.
I'm feeling better now and am awaiting the okay from my cardiologist to start exercising. I'm just going to walk for now, but, I don't want to be caught somewhere and have my heart go poof.
Even with his okay, my heart can go poof, but, he won't be able to say, "I told you not to do that."
Now, I can focus on my diet and weight.

still shrinking

Sep 18, 2010

I got a new wheelchair a couple of weeks ago, and the arms rubbed against my stomach. Now there's a little more room between us.
I'm getting wrinkles on my face. Funny seeing them after all the years of fat preventing them.
I've over done it a couple of times and paid the consequences with pain. A trigger food: potatoes, must be that Irish blood.
Someone on Freecycle has some large size clothes to get rid of. I hope she hasn't gotten rid of them.
My clothes are getting bigger every day.
I'm thinking of weighing every other week, as I have to use the hospital's wheelchair scale. Plus, I won't be as disappointed as I would if I weighed every day. That would be setting myself up for failure.

3 weeks post-op

Sep 10, 2010

I didn't make it for my 2 week post-op check up, cause I had no gas money, so I went on the 8th of this month.
I've so far lost 18.4 lbs, (393.6 lbs) although my clothes make it seem like more.
Dr G. told me I could advance to stage 3 diet, but I beat him to it. I'm already eating regular food and tolerating it quite well.
I've had a couple of days where I had the munchies, but I got over it.
I haven't decided on how often I want to weigh myself. I don't see Dr. G. for another 6 weeks, and I know I can't go that long without knowing.
Maybe I'll wait another week. I have to go to the local hospital to weigh on their wheelchair scale. That's the only scale I can find right now that goes over 350.
Maybe my PCP's office will let me weigh on theirs.

Finally

Aug 31, 2010

I finally had my RNY on the 19th of Aug. (I'm writing this on the 31st)
I feel so wonderful mentally and physically.
I go for my 2 week check up/first weigh in tomorrow and will demand to progress to soft food. I'm so sick of liquids I could eat the cat food, and I'm a vegetarian!!!
I can feel that some weight loss has happened. Why would it not? I've been good!
I can see the dimples in my cheeks. (FACE!!) Haven't seen those in YEARS.
I am so glad I've finally had it done!!!! I want to sing from the mountain tops!

Spicy Butternut Squash Soup

Aug 27, 2010

I'd just like to say that I haven't mastered the art of bariatric cooking, as I just had surgery on the 19th of this month. So, if you can offer advice re these recipes, I welcome it.
I just want to post for the veggie choices.

Spicy Butternut Squash Soup

Medium size Butternut Squash
2 large carrots
1 medium red onion, finely chopped
2 Tbsp. olive oil
1 red chili pepper, finely chopped (I use some chili powder instead)
2 Tbsp. fresh thyme
2 to 3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
4 to 5 cups vegetable stock
Fresh ground pepper
Sea salt
Freshly grated Parmesan cheese (if desired)
1. Peel squash and cut in half lengthwise, remove seeds and cut squash into 1/2 inch cubes.

2. Peel and cut carrots same as squash.

3. Sweat onion and garlic in olive oil, medium heat, 5 to 7 minutes until translucent.

4. Add squash and carrots, cook another 10 minutes to soften vegetables.

5. Add sea salt and pepper to taste.

6. Add thyme, chile peppers and stock, bring to boil and simmer 30 plus minutes.

7. Check seasoning and puree in processor or blender a little at a time, letting steam escape.

8. Garnish with Parmesan Cheese (if desired) and serve.

will it happen?

Aug 15, 2010

Providing my surgeon's office staff doesn't F*** up AGAIN, (they seem to be good at it) I'll have my RNY on the 19th. That's only 4 days away!!!!!!!
I'm so excited. I've already removed my jewelry, and packed my suitcase.
Now, I can have newbies read my posts with envy, as I've been doing for years.
Wish me luck!!

My first recipe

Aug 15, 2010

Texas Caviar
I don't measure anything...
I cook 1 lb black eye peas, drain, salt, jalapeno peppers and cilantro to taste, 3/4c red wine vinegar, green peppers, and green onions cut up.
Mix
Refrigerate overnight to let flavors meld.
I have a serious addiction to this stuff.
