Wednesday, 07/25/07 was my surgery date with Dr. Kam. I remember arriving at 7:15 and my appointment being at 7:30 a.m. There were people who I say before Dr. Kam, such as Rusty, Dollie and I really nice guy, we all joked around, they put the IV in my hand and I don't remember saying goodbye, waking up on the table to move on to the operating table or nothing...
I barely remember being in my room once it was all over. Only because my best friend who drove me said she had to go and would check on me later. After that, my life seem awful, I was nassau and just wanted life to end...I remember saying this to myself on Wed and Thursday.
Thursday, my children and two of my church members came to visit. First my children, they drew me cards that said, 'get well soon' my son had a note on the back of his paper that read, 'hey mom, i wrote this just for you b/c you are special to me and that is from the heart. And even if you didn't make it you would/will be in my heart till the day of my death. and you may laugh at my artist abilities but it is not what is on the outside it is on the inside so i tell you now and forever that I love you "and in Jesus name I pray Amen? I mean" quote Romika - love you King LJ. Romika is my 12 year old daughter and LJ is my 14 year old son, when I read that my heart melts over and over again. That evening Shari, my other church friend came over and had me eat some Gelatin and drink some juice (VERY important). I don't think I would have belched or pass gas if it wasn't for her giving me that...and she is a very gentle woman, so she didn't force me to eat it...for some reason I just did...even though I didn't like jello.
Friday, I said, I do whatever I need to get myself home to be in my bed...
I did whatever was asked of me...a lot of breathing, walking and talking medications in the middle of the night when you just want to sleep the pain away...
Friday morning Dr. Kam came in my room (around 7:40 a.m.) asked me if I had any movements with gas and belching...I did...so I was o.k.(ed) to go home...YES!
I called my friend, told her to be there between 8:30 - 9:00 a.m. to get me, she arrived at 9:30 due to the weather...the nausua started coming back...when I got home, I was so thankful.
I continued to walk around my co-op, take my pain medication (liquid form), eat popsicles and rest. Getting those fluids in is SO important even when you don't want ANYONE to mention food. I'm tired now, so I'll wrote more tomorrow...just wanted all to know I am recovering well...

July 24, 2007 ~ Less than 24 hrs to go...
Jul 24, 2007
Thank you all who have been sending me well wishes...I can't wait to join you on the loser's bench tomorrow. My nerves are bothering me. I didn't go to work today...I thought I'd sleep through my liquid diet. The popsicles were great, the juice helped, sleep was the best.
I'm packing at 11:12 p.m. at night because I want to calm my nerves. I'll be at the Barix Clinic in Ypsilanti tomorrow at 7:30 a.m.
Keep me in your prayers...

Hey everyone,
I'm back with good news. I had a doctor's appt on May 25, 2007. My doctor said she would write my note and she did. However, the insurance specialist said it would be best if she added "12 consecutive months" etc on the letter...and I called today and the letter was complete.
The doctor's office faxed it over to the Barix specialist and the insurance specialist said my file is now complete and she might be able to get an approval from my insurance company today...she'd call me back...
Well, she called back and she said she was able to obtain the approval so now since it is Friday, I'll should be expecting a call from the scheduling department on Monday!
This is great b/c I am going to be moving within the next month or so and I'll be able to have my operation paid in full before I move!
Until Monday...

Hey everyone, I'm back to update. I went to see my psychiarist on 04/20/07 and she had my letter typed, signed and ready to go. Last week I received a call from my doctor's office letting me know that I have sleep apnea and have to return for another study. I was told not to expect to go home w/the machine...but I would have it within the month of so. I guess my doctor has to see more results & order the machine and some type of oxygen level or something.
The good news is that the stress test was included w/the sleep study and I have the letter from the psych. Now all I have to do is write the letter to my doctor and wait to hear back from her. I know you are probably thinking...why hasn't she done this by now...Well...I was scared of the rejection or her telling me that I haven't done enough. Now I know all I can receive is a NO and I can keep working on it until I get a letter.

04/17/07 - Psychologist
Apr 17, 2007
I forgot to document that I went to see my psychologist. While I was there I left a note for my psychiatrist to let her know I would need documentation from her. I know it takes time b/c she has other patients, so I'll attempt to be patient. That was on Friday 13, 2007. I have heard anything yet. Yet, I'm being patient :o) It has only been 3 business days...
04/14/07 ~ Sleep Study
Apr 16, 2007
I had my sleep study on 04/14/07 at the U of M hospital in Ann Arbor. It took me about 35 minutes to drive there and my arrival time to the Med Inn was exactly 8 p.m.
The room had a bed, flat screen TV, a sink, bathroom and a chair. The only problem w/the room was the draft of air coming seeking from the window near my bed...ugh! I get cold very easily...so I went to the closet in search of another blanket. Found a blanket along w/another pillow and HGTV here I come!
Interrupted by the staff. It was time to hook me up to all the wires. All the wires you see in the pictures plus one on my finger to monitor my pulse and a couple in my hair held down w/a bunch of gulk (sp)...
In case you are wondering why my hair looks like that, you must arrive w/your hair washed, dried and containing no oils, etc.
I woke up a couple of times in the night...the last time I woke to a cough they told me it was time for me to wake. The difference between my sleep study here and the one at Botsford hospital was simple...the ease of the tape coming off my skin.
U of M applied some oil to the tape to make it easier for the tape to come off my skin. Botsford told me it would be painful and slowly took it off ((ouch))
I had my ticket stamped and was told that it would be $2.00 to exit the parking garage...however when I got there the attendant had not yet arrived.
I proceeded to the freeway and of course got lost. I had a little argument w/my husband the night before and wouldn't you know it...I had to call him for help. I took the street all the way home...I traveled through so many dirt roads, I felt like I was in the movie, "The Wrong Turn"...scary.
Arrived home, showed my pictures, cooked breakfast for the family and then we were off to church to praise our Lord and Savior!

04/06/07 ~ Consultation
Apr 16, 2007
I had my consultation at Bariatric Specialist of MI in Ypsilanti on 04/06/07. I had called on 04/05/07 and wow the very next day I had an appointment scheduled w/Dr. Kam.
Dr. Kam told me that I was a candidate for both the Lap-Band and RNY. I went in thinking that I wanted to have the Lap-Band, however I find myself researching more and more on RNY.
He said that my insurance required me to have a ECG and a psychiatric/psychological consultation. What in the heck is an ECG?
"ECG (electrocardiogram) is a test that measures the electrical activity of the heart. The heart is a muscular organ that beats in rhythm to pump the blood through the body."
Know that I know what it is, I'll have to figure out if this was a part of my sleep study or if I have to set up a special appt. w/my doctor.
