emtchick
I have pretty much been overweight most of my adult life. My highest weight is 365 lbs. That was in November '05 when I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. My doctor put me on metformin and I lost 55 lbs within the course of 5 months. Then the weight stopped coming off. I have been 310 for about 1 1/2 yrs now. I may lose a couple here and there but nothing significant. I am an EMT which was an important factor in deciding to have the bypass. I am subject to all kinds of conditions being an EMT and I would be able to perform my duties better if I were thinner. This came after I had to wade through a field in waist high weeds and water with all my gear on to help a patient who had been in an accident. What an experience!! Just the other day I had to climb a steep flight of stairs to get to a patient. By the time I got to the top I could hardly lift my legs and I was panting. Thankfully my partner carried the equipment because I couldn't have done it. By having the bypass I will also be getting rid of the diabetes. I suffer from reflux and that will go away too. I am a person who loves the taste of food but I am willing to take this sacrifice so that I may feel much better.
