I have been ready to get WLS since I heard about it! My mom had an RNY in 2002 and that is the year I started gaining weight fast. I went from a 16 to a 26 in about 6 months. I changed my eating when I got pregnant with my daughter, and actually lost a pants size after having her. I was diagnosed with Hodgekins lymphoma (cancer in your lymph nodes) when I was 5 months pregnant. I did 12 treatments of chemo over 6 months right after I had my daughter. During chemo I had 2 hospitalizations, 1 for a kidney stone and 1 for surgery of my gallbladder. I had a port put in before, and removed after chemo. I got a hernia from complications from the gallbladder surgery. I tried to get pregnant after my daughter turned 1 but it ended on the surgery table because I had massive internal bleeding from the pregnancy being eptopic. All together (counting some things I didnt mention)
I have had 6 surgeries with incisions and 1 lithotripsy before I even had bariatric surgery. To say that I was fearless of the RNY is quite an understatement. I figure that if I am going to spend most of my life in the hospital, then I might as well be smaller and easier to move. I am no stranger to needles, and not a month goes by without me having to get my blood drawn! Ive probably had 12 CT scans. I have the health of an 80 yr old. My grandpa is 90 and has had less hospital visits then I have. After my RNY I got a kidney stone. I had to stay in the hospital and have 2 procedures with anestesia to remove the stone then unblock an infected kidney. At 50 lbs lighter everything about that hospital stay was different from the others, because even getting up to go to the bathroom was easier. It made eating harder (I ate my way through all the other procedures) but i still am very very happy with my RNY. Total count of anestesia now is 9. yikes! so when you say that your insicion hurts. I know. You say your sick of the hospital, i know.... I really really know. Strangely I am in school to be an RN because I like the way that hospitals operate. I just want to be the one that is not sitting in the bed! Im at almost 5 months and down 70 lbs. My original goal was to lose 100 lbs by christmas, but 165 is closer then ever!
