2009. I started looking into WLS about 5 years ago. My family doctor was against RNY and suggested Weight Watchers. I tried it and it worked, but I couldn't keep it off for any Length of time and it was such a horrible struggle. I was always hungry or eating something I hate. I wasn't much fun to be around either. A year ago, I decided to pursue it again even if I had to change doctors. I attended a seminar at St. John's (which was my fourth seminar but first with this hospital). I thought Dr. Edwards gave the most informational yet understandable brief. I started the process with my family's blessing and even the approval of my doctor since I had decided on the Lap Band instead of the RNY. It's taken almost a year, but I finally have a surgery date and I think I've learned a lot about the procedure and what to expect after as well as how screwy the insurance companies act. I'm on the second week of my pre-diet and it's not too bad. My surgery date is 6 March and I'm so excited.
March 2013
I'm waiting again!
I did pretty well with the band but it slipped and i had to have it removed for health reasons September 2012. I had to wait 90 days before pursuing the RNY. So I started that 16 January.
I started the insurance process - again, In January with the full support of Dr. Edwards and his entire staff. I have an appointment this afternoon for the results of my latest psych eval (hope i passed!). They will submit my paperwork to see if since it's a revision if I can be approved now or do I have to re-do the entire thing. I changed family doctors in January and this one is supportive and has already started documenting my supervised weight loss for just in case.
I'm feeling very bummed out lately. I've gained about 25 pounds since the band was removed and I feel so blah. Please let the insurance company cooperate and not make me wait until July/August/September.
