Crappy weather
Mar 22, 2009
I tell ya, I really have a hard time with winter. I live in Minnesota and I say this!! My whole family lives in this state and I did live in Texas for ten years and missed my family the whole time. It just seems like we spend 6 or more months in hibernation with little activity and sunlight for that matter. It can be very depressing. We had a very nice last few days, but now today was cloudy and very windy, I know that weather plays a role in emotional eating. I realize spring is hear and soon the flowers will be budding! I have my 3rd appointment tom. with my NUT. I am sure she will weigh me, I hope I have not gained. It would be ok if I stayed the same. This weekend is spring break and I am planning on visiting my mother. I plan on telling her about my surgery as no one at all is aware of it, even my son. I will tell him at the same time. I just wanted to let more time pass and to get more info on it myself so I can answer the million questions I am sure I will get. The most important thing is that I am doing this to take control...period. I need this. I need my life back and my peace of mind.

2nd Meeting with the NUT....February 23,2009
Feb 23, 2009
This afternoon at 1:30 I had my second appointment with Jamie Michel my Nutritionist at Olmsted Medical Center. She was in a much better mood today then last time!! I was really worried about not having my food journals with me but it turned out to not be a big deal. I guess because she had weighed me and I am down 3 pounds from last weigh in 4 weeks ago. The scale read 264 today. I also told her of my change from going from regular size popcorn bags to the small individual ones, drinking diet pop only if I am going to drink pop, I have been eating Boca vegetarian burgers ( I like a lot!) and making small dietary changes. Also, have added more activity, walking ect. It is really hard being in school full time and being in the dead of winter...hurry up spring. I asked her if she has counceled anybody who had lapband surgery, she said she has not but that she believes the first case will be in May. I think I would be in May too, but if I get this job I interviewed for on Friday I would have to wait till June when school is out. Either way it is 3 months away and time is going fast. I get worried about telling my mom and my family but then some days I dont. There reactions will not change the fact that I will have this surgery, but I would rather have their good blessings and understanding support. My next appointment is March 4 with Dr. Loring. I am going to be more conscience about logging my food journals and try to be more physical. Until next time...

Test Results from Endoscopy February 19,2009
Feb 23, 2009
Olmsted Medical Group called me at about 10 this morning and told me that the test results came back from my upper GI Endoscopy and they looked good and the biopsy they took was benine (spelling) Honestly I didnt know for sure if they even did a biopsy and what exactly they did it on I do not know, I dont remember a thing but the good news is that it all looks good and I dont have any ulcers or anything else wrong that could prevent the lapband or later complications. One less step to being a bandster.

Meet the Phycologist February 18-2009
Feb 23, 2009
I got to my appointment and was warmly greeted by Dr. Barb Loring. I guess I thought I was going to lay on a couch like you see on tv but instead I sat in an oversized very comfortable chair. She started off by asking questions about me and my family history. I have no problem telling anybody about my past and my experiences. Everything was fine until I was asked about the health of my parents and then I had to tell her that my dad had just passed away recently. I told her about his leukemia and the year are family spent watching him win and then loose his battle. I started to cry when I told her of my day I spent with him 4th of July last year, that morning me mom and dad had gone to some garage sales later that afternoon we had been out fishing on the pontoon, the fish were biting like crazy. I could tell dad was really enjoying it. It was getting late so we headed in and got ready for the BBQ. Dad grilled way too much food and we (me, my son, my nephew, and mom) ate and soon after we did some fireworks. Soon the boys went in for the night and me and mom and dad stayed out and watched the big fire works show from across the lake. I will never forget the moment dad was waving his sparkler and said how much better he was feeling and that it must have been a cold. We went to bed. The next morning I woke up to the sound of his foot dragging across the gravel in the driveway. I then heard two car doors slam. I got dressed and went into the cabin and saw a note from mom saying that she had to take dad into the clinic and that he would be fine. Hours would pass and mom came home without dad. They had admitted him. He stayed at that hospital for 2 days before they transfered him to the U of M. He never left the U of M. I spent dads last day at his home which he loved and cherished and worked so hard for. It was truly a special day that God blessed me with. The doctor listened carefully and shared with me the fact that she had lost her spouse as well. We finished the interview and then I had to take this 600 questionaire dealy. When I was done I handed it to her and she said good luck and congratulations on your weight loss future. I guess this means good news. I will see her March 4th for the results of the questionare.

Meet the Surgeon January 20, 2009
Feb 16, 2009
It was one of those doctors appointments that you get called right away. The nurse on duty is cheerful and glad to be at work. She was checking my BP and was telling me about how much she liked Dr. Chandra. She said he is really nice and professional with the patients as well as the staff. I guess I hadn't thought of that before. A doctor could be a real a**hole to work with as a co-worker but have great bedside manner. Well, I knew the second I met him, he had a firm, warm handshake.
He didn't act rushed at all and it was late afternoon. I had several questions for him and he said they were good ones. He even went and got an actual band for me so I could hold it and look at it...big plus!! I had almost canceled the appointment to begin with but after talking with him I was fully confident in him and my decision. The only thing that raised a red flag was that not one lapband procedure has been done in Olmsted county were I live. Olmsted county is well known for the Mayo Clinic. I was surprised to hear this. The other type of Bypass has been done for a really long time, just not the band. Then my head started thinking...hey, maybe I could be the first. That would be sorta neat.

This morning I woke up with a terrible headache and fasting didnt help things but was still able to take a Tylenol. I got to the hospital at 10. I really had no idea just what to expect. My nurse came and got me and her name was Brenda as well, she was really nice. I told her that I was in the works for a lap band surgery and she thought that it was just great. She couldnt say enough nice things about my Doctor. I noticed this about a lot of people. They all have good professional things to say about him. He went out of town for a few months and learned this procedure and will be doing them in this area. So far Rochester has not done one Lap Band procedure. Could I be the first? They wealed me into the surgery room, put in an iv. sprayed some stuff into my throat which made it very numb, doc came in and told me I will do fine, told me to roll over. The next thing I know a nurse is asking me if I am going to wake up. I said I was trying to relax for the procedure to start...he said.. were all done! and sure enough I was in a different room. Everything was done I was in shock. I was woozy from the drugs, went home, took a nap felt better later. I am one step closer to reality. I guess they did a biopsy in my stomache which is common. I still am waiting for the results of my blood tests as well....Later.
