6 Months Post-op!

Feb 25, 2009

I can't believe that six months have past since the beginning of my journey last Aug. 2008.  To date I am 91lbs down and so close to being in onederland that I could taste it.  I havn't been in  the one hundreds since 1999,  (gosh has it really been that long).  For the most part I would say that this experience has been wonderful and I have no regrets what so ever.  I have been very lucky and have not had any medical issues other than the normal eating to much stomach pains etc.  The one thing that I have been struggling with is getting my butt to the gym which I really hate doing.  I'm now wearing a size 16 in pants and 18/20 in tops which is great but I really can't wait until I can start shopping out of the plus size section.  For kicks I went to Macy's and tried on an XL to size how it fits but the two tops I tried on were still a little snug so that's not happening yet.  But i'm being very patient with this process and trying not to rush things too much because I know everyone is different and my body will only do so much.  I can't wait to see what size i'll be come summer time and if I will even be able to wear anything that is very short sleeved etc.

I've passed the two month mark!

Oct 20, 2008

I can't believe it has been over two months since my RNY!  It really feels like it has been way more than two months.  That's why I have to stop and remind myself that it has only been two months and I need to be a little patient with myself.  In my opinion the weight could be coming off alot faster than it already is.  Since I had a weight stall so early out in my procedure (at 1.5weeks) an lasted almost 3 weeks I feel that the weight is coming off slowly.  I'm down almost 48lbs but some of that is pre-surgical weight loss (I'm guess about 20lbs is pre-surgical weight loss) and I really try hard and not compare myself to others but others seem to be losing it alot faster.

So this is where you give yourself the pep talk and realize that you have lost almost 50lbs and that I'm probably going to lose it a little slower but it will eventually come off.  I have had a few outsiders that have commented on my weight loss like my hairstylist and a few people from my childrens school.  Clothes are definately fitting alot better these days but I'm not at the point where I have to replace them yet.  I always tended to buy pants that were already a little to tight in the beginning.

I havn't come across any problems in the eating department but I still feel that I lack in the protein department and I have already stopped logging a food journal which is probably not the smartest thing.  I try to eat balanced and healthy food options, watch my carb intake and have been very good with my sugar intake (which even surprises me a little).  I'm not sure if I'm a dumper or not but I have been nervous to find out so thus far I have not experimented and have not gone overboard with sweets.

I've also been pretty good with my exercise routine and try to go at least 3x a week for now but will probably need to up that amount in the future once I realize I hit another weight stall.

To the next two months!

I'm doing ok so far, I can't complain to much since I have fully recovered from surgery and thankfully have not had any complications.  I have experienced a few ouch moments with my stomach but I don't think I would call them dumping episodes or maybe they were.  My worst was when I believe I ate too quickly and my stomach/chest hurt like I wasn't able to really inhale.  But I'm getting more familiar with the signs and stop well before I get too full.  The only complaint I do have is that I'm not able to eat my protein intake for the day but the physicians assistant at Dr's office says at this point I should start to get away from protein drinks.  I don't see how that is possible but I'm trying.  I'm starting to notice the weight loss in my face and abdomen slightly.  But my biggest problem area is my hanging gut which will require lots of situps (I'm hoping I will have something of a flat tummy).  I did unfortunately have a weight stall 2 weeks out which last almost 3 weeks but I have started noticing the scale slowly move down.  I'm trying real hard not to focus too much on numbers right now and take things one day at a time.
