I'm at it again!

Oct 06, 2012

I haven't been here in a long time.  I tried to get the sleeve done in June of 2011, but was turned down yet again because of my history of hospitalizations.  I'm going to try again with the sleeve!  So now I'm back here and back at it!

Sorry I've been MIA

May 20, 2011

Like the title says, sorry I've been MIA.  Anyway, after a lot of flip-flopping, I've decided to get the Realize band over the Lap-Band.  It just seems like a better product.

I'm still working on my binge-eating, which I know is something I need to address.  I also need to go the gym more regularly.  But I've been going more often than before so I'm making progress.

Issues that need addressing

Jan 22, 2011

There are a couple of issues in my life that need addressing.  First off is my binge-eating.  How can I expect to lose weight if I keep binging.  Someone once told me that I'm bulimic, but I don't think that's right because I never purge.  Isn't bulimia binging AND purging?

Second thing that needs addressing is that I'm not going to the gym very often.  I've been there a grand total of 3 times and I've had membership for a month now.  I need to get off my lazy butt and go there.

It's Been Awhile Since I've Posted

Jan 13, 2011

It's been awhile since I've posted.  Nothing much is new, except that my BMI has gone up instead of down.  The good news is that I recently joined a gym.  The bad news is that I've only been twice.  Yesterday, though, I did get somewhat of a workout from shoveling snow.

Oh, I've come to the decision to have my surgery done at Lowell General Hospital rather than Emerson Hospital.  I've been to informational seminars at both and it seems to me that Lowell General has a better program.  Lowell General used the term "patient for life" and I liked that.

Feeling a Bit Discouraged

Aug 26, 2010

Yesterday I went for an initial consult.  It did not go as well as expected.  First, I was told that because I'm on various psychiatric medications it would be better if I got a band instead of a RNY.  This is because after an RNY my body might not absorb the meds as well as before.

Another thing that upset me was that I was told that because I was in the hospital for depression three months ago, I'm not currently a candidate for any type of WLS.  I was told that I have to be out of the hospital for a minimum of one year before I can be a candidate.  I guess I'll just have to work really hard on staying out of the hospital.

The positive side of all of this is that I have more time to do research on WLS.  I have to decide which type of band I want.  Right now, upon reviewing both websites, I'm leaning towards the Realize band over the Lap-Band.  This is because the Realize band is less likely to leak.  It also less likely to slip.

Another reason for choosing the Realize band is that I like the Realize band's website better than the Lap-Band's website.  I know this last reason seems petty, but it's a reason.  The Realize band's website has this food counter thing that I think will be really helpful.

First Post

Aug 13, 2010

Wow, my first post!  I'm not really sure what to say here.  I'm married with no children and we live with my inlaws.  Other than my weight, my life is pretty good.
