I seriously started researching WLS around September 2009. I am a reader, so have read a total of 7 books on the subject and still reading! Kind of OC about that. Anyway, I went to an open seminar that the hospital conducts on a regular basis. I was impressed from that very first encounter with the surgeon and the team!
With a lower BMI, i was concerned about getting approved for RNY, but replaced Fear with Faith and started on my chosen road towards permanent health and fitness!
The first thing i knew i had to do for the FINAL time was to quit smoking. My last smoke was April 1st, 2010. And that's no April fools joke!
Spent the next 6 months meeting with my dietitian who was just wonderful. Had fun with the food journal, cause i also recorded my emotions. I have a weird sense of humor. Looking back, i think my dietitian got a kick out of my journal comments too.
I was starting to have a slight problem with sleepiness during driving (no such thing as that being a "slight" problem i guess). Anyway, had a sleep study done and was diagnosed with sleep apnea in May. Started on CPAP June 1st and that has made a big difference.
Had my appointment with psych in August and finally met my surgeon one on one Sept 7th. I was very impressed and encouraged. He told me there is no reason i cannot accomplish all of my goals!
All of my info was submitted to my insurance company for pre-authorization and 2 weeks later had my approval. I guess having a lower BMI with 4 co-morbidities deemed it medically necessary.
When i first started this journey, i thought this milestone was so far away, but the time has flown by and now here i am!
I am staring down my surgery date with fierce determination and commitment!
I will be HEALTHY and I will be FIT!
