I had my lap-band surgery on Tuesday 24th of July. I went into the theatre at about 5:15pm. I was fourth on the list that day so I had to wait it out. That morning, I had some toast and some tea, which I was told to eat before 8am. (My last solid food for awhile) My mum hung out with me, watching TV and that.
This was the first time I had had an operation so I remember feeling nervous and sorry for myself, and when I was waiting in pre-op I cried a bit. I had to leave my glasses in my room so I couldn't clearly see anything and that was kinda bumming me out. I waited there for about 10 minutes I think. So when I get into the theatre, I am asked to shuffle onto the operating table, and a nurse untied my awesome gown and I felt pretty embarrassed. The needle the anaethetist put into my hand pretty much hurt and I remember him asking me if it hurt and I said 'no' for some reason. Someone, I assume a nurse put heart monitors on my chest, and another nurse put a mask over my mouth and told me to take deep breaths, and that's kinda all I remember. Next thing I know I'm in my room and I have a breathing mask on and my mum and aunty and grandparents are in my room and I had a drip in my hand. Pretty strange, and that night I remember talking to myself quietly, thinking people were in the room saying jokes and I would actually laugh and open my eyes and realised that I imagined it.
Every nurse that came in said I was recovering really well and that I was doing really good. This morning my surgeon came in and saw me, he told me that I can now have nourishing liquids and that I could go home. Right now I'm feeling kinda sore, mostly discomfort. I'm very tired, walking from one room to another is tiring. I'm gonna go and have a rest now.
