I was born & raised in Oregon, and have lived here most of my life. I have has weight issues since I was in grade school. I can remember going shopping for school clothes, and having to go to the "Chubby" section. While in highschool, I was able to keep it somewhat under control, and after highschool joined the Air Force. I graduated basic training at 125 lbs, and two years later was pushing 150. They put me in a weight management program, and "ordered" me to not gain any more weight. Two years later I became pregnant and requested to be discharged.
During my pregnancy, I only gained about 30 lbs, and lost about half of that after the birth. But within about 6 months, I had gained 50 lbs. I held there at right around 200 for almost 10 years, then got pregnant again. This time, I only gained about 15 lbs, and lost about 20 after the birth. But by the time my son was about 4 months old, I had gained another 50 lbs. Both times, I had not done anything different than before the pregnancy, but for some reason, the pounds just packed on. My son is 15 now, and over the years the weight has slowly crept up, until I reached my highest of 288.
I have tried many different diets, weight loss programs and plans, and have never been able to lose more than 5 or 10 lbs. This past July I found out that my health insurance covers bariatric surgery, so I went to the informational meeting, discussed it with my husband, and we decided that I would do this. I have been working since then on getting all the pre-op requirements done, and I'm just about there. I am hoping to have everything done in the next week or so, and have tentatively reserved Jan 14 08 as my surgery date.
