I'm here because I am interested in learning more about the Lapband procedure, it's safety, and what my options are.  I am 39 yrs. old, have 4 kids, am 5'5" and weigh 254 pounds, the most I've ever weighed.  I have tracked my fat and caloric intake and I don't consume too much, and I eat healthy.  I don't exercise because I have chronic Asthma and Plantar Fasciitis.  I'm on 3 meds for my Asthma, which keeps it from getting too bad, but does not control it, and allergy meds, too.  I'm on a medication for High Blood Pressure, one for RLS (restless leg syndrome), and Prozac.  I did not grow up fat, I was actually teased for being so thin when I was a teenager.  I've been checked for Diabetes and Thyroid problems, every test comes up normal, however, I always am consistently low in Potassium.  I've been checked for Food Allergies, that comes up normal.  I've had my heart scanned for abnormalities and that comes up normal.  I can't handle salt, I swell up too much, so I avoid salt by choosing low sodium items and never adding salt to anything i eat.  I eat fruit and veggies everyday, drink water only, never any sodas, and when I want fruit juice, I add a small amount to my water to dilute it.  I'm frustrated with my Asthma, and still can't walk a flight of stairs or go anywhere where I have to walk too far.  I am a F/T student in college, studying for my Medical Assistant degree, and have a hard time just walking to and from class everyday.  My insurance is with Kaiser and I am thinking about asking if it's possible to get the Lapband surgery through Kaiser, but still not quite sure if they do it and if they cover the entire cost or not.  My BMI is 43, well within the limits for qualifying, so I'm hoping I can learn more about it here and learn about all my options.  My granmother died at the age of 55 of a heart attack, my Aunt died at 60, her heart literally blew up inside of her, and I don't want to end up like them.  I'm here for help, I'm not sure which weight loss route to take, I just know I want it to be the healthiest one, nothing too dangerous and I already know it takes time and effort, I know it won't be a quick fix.  I just know that I'm eating healthy and exercise is very hard for me most of the year.  I also don't have much money, so I know I need to incorporate some home, stationary exercise to my routine, even if it's just lifting some semi-heavy items to build strength.  Most of all, I need support and encouragement to get going and get started.
