OK, I am going to start putting things in this section. I have read so many others profiles and the details really helped me. I will eventually put my 'whole story' here, but for now, I will just start with August of '08.
08/06/08
Had my consultation with Dr, Syn in Lubbock, TX. The insurance I have (Presbytarian Salud) does not have any surgeons locally in Albuquerque that they work with.
The consultation went well. It was a group setting (about 6 people), and i was the only 'guy' there. The Dr was very matter of fact, and very confident in his ability. Which gave me great confidence in him as well. The actual consultation, in the group setting even, was emotional for me, just hearing about the possibilities this surgery will allow, was very exciting. the more I heard the more it felt like, "this could really happen for me"... I have been through this part before, so I tried not to get my hopes too high...

I did my Psych evaluation today. Pretty much a true false test about how you feel in certain circumstances etc. Then a short interview with the Doc. and he faxed the results to the suregeon.

Called the suregons office to make sure they had everything they needed from me and my PCP. They didn't have my records from my PCP yet for some reason, so I called and had my PCP fax them. the surgeon office called me back to verify they had recieved them, and they had faxed everything to the insurance. Now the big wait... I've been here before, only to be turned down when I was in Arizona, due to being "too healthy" with a BMI over 70?!? Go figure...

Called Dr Syn's office to make sure the insurance had recieved all they needed and hadn't asked for more than they were already sent. They assured me that the insurance had all they needed and we should know something the first of next week... They also reminded me, as they said at the consult, that the surgery dates are running about a month out. So it looks like IF I get approved, it will be late September before I get the surgery...

I recieve a phone call from the insurance saying I have been approved for my consultation with Dr Syn. I say that is really great since I already did the consult on the 6th of the month. I figure the typical month behind on paperwork crap, oh well. She asks me to hold on a minute... She comes back on the line and says she was mistaken, it was my SURGERY that had been approved.
It's hard to explain ALL the different emotions that came with hearing that...

I get another call today, this time from the surgeons office to schedule the surgery. I knew it would be late September, but I asked anyway what the schedule looked like. The lady asked me; "well, how soon do you want it", of course I tell her as "soon as possible". She says hold on a minute, gets back on and explains that my particular insurance requires that the surgery be done at a specific hospital, and the Dr does all the surgeries there on Thursdays. I say OK, so what thursdays in September are still available? She says, I can have it the 28th if I want to.. OF THIS MONTH!! I have to travel for this and stay in a hotel for at least a week, so I ask if I can call her back and confirm. I called my father, who was planning to be there for the surgery date with me, called my wife, they all say lets do this. So we are. So, my new birthday is August 28th, 2008. I am ready to see where this takes me....
