I slept so much better last night. I got a new C-Pap mask and it is much more comfortable to wear. Blessings sometimes come in little ways that we aren't expecting. Anyway, I need to send a thank you note to my respiratory technician for changing it for me.
My surgery is getting so close. I'm trusting God that nothing will prevent this from moving ahead in a timely but very positive manner.

8/23/06 Whew!!! Crises averted (I think)!

Oct 14, 2006

I left a message on Molly's voice mail early this morning.  She called back to say she had just re-faxed the paperwork from 3 different fax machines at that office just to make sure it gets there.
I called and left Stephanie a message telling her what actions the dietitian has taken.

UDATE: Stepanie called back and she "still" hasn't gotten it.  She took Molly's phone number and will call her directly so they can work it out.

8/22/06 uh oh........

Oct 14, 2006

Uh-oh... I got a call from Stephanie from the surgeons office who does all of the the insurance work and she hasn't received the report from the dietitian.  So I tried to call the dietition and she is out of the office today.......wouldn't you know!!

I've made the needed arrangements for lodging and much
of my transportation while I'm across the state from my home to have my surgery.
A very sweet lady (Jody) from my old church has opened her home to me.  Between her, my former pastor and a couple of friends, there should be no problems.  I need to be there a couple of days early and must stay in the area  until I've had my first follow-up visit.  Assuming there are no problems, I'll then be allowed to come home and start my new life.  My daughter will take me and bring me home but since we are so far away and she has a husband, 2 sons kids and a 10 month old grandchild at home she will need to return home the same day I have the surgery.  I've told her I can do the surgery without her having to be there, but I'm not sure she is going to go along with me on that idea.

8/2/06 Met with Dietitian

Oct 14, 2006

I had my consultation with "a" dietitian (Molly) today.
She faxed it to the surgeon's office before I left.  That means they can put in my insurance request. I'm praying that goes through quickly and there aren’t any problems. My surgeon requires that I do a consult with the one at the hospital that normally works with his bariatric patients and has the Bariatic Seal of Excellence. The next thing on my list is to do my pre-surgery shopping AND to make travel and lodging arrangements to stay in the area.

7/29/06 I've Got A Date!!!!

Oct 14, 2006

My surgery is tentatively scheduled at 10 am
on 9/21/06!!!  Tentative because this office works on the
assumption they will be able to get that all important
insurance approval.   The day was very long and I was
exhausted by the time I got home last night.  I left home
about 6:45 am and didn't get home until 9:45 pm.
I have every confidence in Dr. Pettine who has well over
300 laproscopic GBS in his resume and two of those are
personal acquaintences.  Insurance required I have a nutritional consultation before my paperwork gets submitted.

Oct 14, 2006

Today is that all important date for the preliminary visit with Dr. Pettine.  My daughter is taking me and it will take all day because the its a 5 hour drive in each direction and I've also scheduled my psych eval to to be done while I'm in that area.

Only 9 days before my visit with the surgeon  and I'm getting very anxious to get this going and get it done.
My legs still carry me, but my lungs can’t get enough air for me to walk more than just a few steps.

Wooo Hoooooo!!!!  I received the call  today to see Dr. Pettine for my preliminary consultation.  I'm almost afraid to believe this.... but I'm putting my faith in God and whatever his plan for my life is good
what I really want for my life.

I started down this path in 2001.  My surgery was set up for May 2003 and the company I worked for sold and we all lost our insurance.
With a BMI of 62 and at 64 years of age, I'm dealing with being in a wheelchair (I can get around inside my very small apartment or a few feet out the door to my van if I use my cane). I use oxygen 24/7 and a C-pap at night.
My comorbiites include congestive heart failure, COPD, lymphedma and arthritis which is particularly problematic in my back, hips, knees and feet.  Ankylosing spondalytis is the form of arthritis in my back and is a less well known but causes the vertebrae to eventually fuse causing the back to become rigid.
