"Well, I have to say I was happy when Susan Thayer (Dr. Thayer's wife and the nurse there) called me to tell me they had a cancellation for August 28th and offered me the appointment ... my original date for consult was Dec.12th, lol big difference. The office itself isn't that big, considering how many people they had coming and going and it IS an obesity clinic. I waited 1 1/2 hours for my appointment ... they warm you that you will be at the appointment for about 4 hours. One thing that was nice was that even though you are waiting a long time, it is easy to chat with others in the office since you are all there for the same thing. At the first appointment you see the Psychologist, the nutitionist, and then the surgeon. I was surprised I only spent about 15 minutes with the psychologist. Then they have you watch a video about the types of surgery and complications. Then they usually have you see the nutritionist then the surgeon. I saw the surgeon first though because he was avaiable before the nutritionist. Dr. Thayer seemed nice, he had a good sense of humor. He asked if I had a any questions then told me he would see me probably a couple of times before surgery since it was 4 months away. You are not allowed to gain any weight before surgery or they will postpone it. The nutritionist weighs you and takes a "before" pic then chats about your diet and what you can do to change it and make it better. Everyone in the office was very friendly, although at times it did feel as though it were an assembly line because of all the people. I am looking forward to my next appointment with Dr. Thayer Oct. 30th ... I should be having my surgery in January. I will keep you updated. Update: I had my surgery January 6, 2003. Now that I have gone through the whole process my veiws on Dr. Thayer are a little more enlightened. He is a great surgeon ... but don't expect to get that warm and fuzzy feeling from him, because he is not that type. He is very matter -a-fact, will tell you exactly what's on his mind and a lot of times he is not very tactful. In truth, I find his him to be a bit cocky, a quality I truely dislike, however, that does not take away from the fact that he is GREAT surgeon. If you are looking for a more sensitive surgeon, he is probably not the one for you ;o)Mind you, these are all my own personal views :o)"
