8 Months and Under Goal
Aug 29, 2011
So I am around eight months post-op and am currently about 12lbs or so under my goal!! I won't lie and say the past month or so has been easy. I have been fighting with some binging and some vacation eating. I am trying to keep track of what I eat and am working to get my exercise in. I never realized how hard it would be to keep up with everything, but it is so worth the struggle.
I wear medium shirts (juniors) and about a size 9 (in junior's skinny jeans). I recently purchased a leather motorcycle jacket (medium) and I am excited because I was able to get a good price for it since it wasnt a speciality plus-size jacket. It looks great on me too!
Since being on vacation, i have been slacking on exercise, but when i get home in a few days, back to my routine. I definitely want to work out more. I feel like a slob when I don't work out as often. I also need to work on my daily eating. I need to find a balance of protein and calories that sustains the full feeling and won't cause regain. I do not want to find myself back at an unhealthy weight. It just would not be worth all that I have gone through.
I am so glad that I got the RNY and do not know where I would be without it. I have gained some more confidence and finally feel like a normal person of my age (22). I can do so many activities that would have scared me before (like hiking and even mall shopping.) I have to maintain a new lifestyle and I know it will not always be easy, but I know it will be the best thing for my health and happiness.

Almost Five Months Post-Op
May 27, 2011
I cannot believe I am almost five months post-op already! The last few months have been insanely busy. I had a crazy semester at school and have been busy preparing for transfer to a new college. Summer classes just started, so I am still busy, but I get a little memorial day weekend break.
On the weight loss front, I have lost 61lbs since surgery! From my heighest weight of 280, I have lost 115lbs!! I look and feel like a different person. It is amazing to be able to shop anywhere and feel comfortable in my own skin. My ankles and knees dont hurt anymore and I have a ton of energy. I wear sizes ranging from 9/10-11/12 and have started wearing medium tops. I had been wearing clothes with x's in the sizes for years, so this is sooo new and amazing.
I work out as regularly as possible. Usually about 5 days a week. I work out for about 30-45 minutes each time and see results that I love. I don't want to go too far and start exercising at a level that is too much. I dont want to get ahead of myself. So far, I enjoy my workouts and continue them.
Things are so good in my life and I hope that the feeling lasts. I know it is hard work and I am working hard at maintaining this new lifestyle. I don't want to get complacent...

Almost one week post op....
Jan 18, 2011
so after my surgery was postponed on December 29, I thought my insurance was going to deny my request... Fortunately on January 3 they approved my lap rny.... sooo Jan 12 I had my surgery done at Tufts by Dr. Shikora....
Recovery has not been bad at all... I was out of it for a day after surgery, but since Friday I have been doing very well. I have a lot of soreness in one incision, the biggest one, and that is the only thing that has been bothering me. I havent officially weighed myself, but i was playing with the scale today and it showed a five pound loss!! i am so excited that this is working already!!
i have been fortunate to have a lot of help with my son because I do not have the energy to keep up with him quite yet. I cannot wait until i have the energy for that and I cannot wait to start working out again. I feel so lazy right now lol
well, my journey has just begun so lets see what happens

WOW! is all I can say....
Ok, I'll say more. I was weighed and had lost weight. Not only did i lose weight, I weighed even less than the appointments I had before my little setback... I couldn't believe it! I mean I know I have gotten back on track, but I didnt know that I was doing that well...
Anyways, that is sooo motivating. I want to keep it up before my surgery date of DECEMBER 29!!!
Oh Insurance Gods, Approve my request!!!

NUT Appointment Tomorrow
Nov 16, 2010
Ok so I go to see my NUT tomorrow. I am pretty sure I have gained some weight since my last appointment. I have been working hard to get back on track, but still, the damage is done. I know I have to keep up my weight loss and I know this could be a problem, but I am hoping that they see me trying to get back on track and that I realize when/how my setback started.
I guess I am stressed out and worried about school and finances and started to turn back to my frenemy--FOOD!! But food is a back-stabbing *%@, so i need to find a new friend lol Fortunately, I have kept to my exercise routine and that makes me feel great, especially since I have seen results.
SO, now that I get that off my chest... I am hoping that the scale doesnt "boo" me tomorrow... keeping my fingers crossed

Met My Surgeon
Oct 27, 2010
I finally met Dr. Shikora!! He was very nice and seemed very optimistic about my RNY!! He said he would send a letter out to my insurance ASAP... I really hope I get my date soon :)
My weight keeps fluctuating, which is frustrating, but I need to relax and keep trying to eat better and exercise. I have been using my EA Sports Active on my Wii and love fact that I can create my own workouts... I have really noticed that my jeans are fitting more loosely and people have commented that I look like I lost weight.. I hope I can keep it up before surgery and especially afterwards... I am so excited!!

Getting There
Oct 14, 2010
I'm getting there... I started meeting with Doctors at Tufts in September. My immersion day is next week!! I meet with my amazing surgeon on the 26th and am so excited.!!
I started trying to lose weight on my own, being monitored by my PCP, in the beginning of the year. I started at 280 and am now down to 245. I cannot believe how much weight I have lost on my own and cannot wait to have RNY to help me get to a "normal" weight. I know I will lose more pre-op, as I do not yet even have my date, but that will help me to lose even more weight post op!!
This journey is hard but so worth it and I hope to one day look back and be proud of myself for everything that I have done to make myself healthy.
