It's hard to believe that the day I've waited for is nearly here.  Here I sit on Saturday afternoon - frantically trying to clear out my office email, and get things completed before my medical leave that begins on Tuesday - wondering how it could be here already.  

September of 2006 seems so long ago, Heck - even early April when my approval letter arrived seems light years away...but in 3 short days I'll join the crowd on the loser's bench...and I can't wait to take my place.  Many thanks to all on this board that have provided education, inspiration and guidance...I look forward to the opportunity to "pay it forward" to those that follow me on what I hope will be a wonderful journey.

Well, I'm calling it an almost update, since based on a letter I received today and a phone call I had with the insurance company, I'm almost approved.  I received another denial letter in the mail today - this after thinking I'd completed the 6 month diet, the nutritional eval, the psych eval, the walking etc.  After a deep breath, I called the insurance folks and (surprised at my own calm) asked what else needed to be completed in order for the approval.  To my surprise, the only thing that appears to be missing is a letter from my primary care physician stating that I'm physically fit for surgery.  Dare I hope that something that simple stands between me and victory?  I refuse to allow excessive optimism to enter the scene.  So...I left a message with the doctor's office and will [patiently and calmly] wait for a return call from Dr. M.  If she's willing to fax the letter (which I suspect she will) the appeals process can begin and I'm told it's "pretty quick"...though working for an insurance company, I know how long "pretty quick" can be :-).
