Jasmine D.
Hi, my name is Jasmine and I am researching my options for a RNY revision. I had a vertical banded gastroplasty in 2002. I never had any complications really, and from what I have read from other posts, I am one of the lucky ones. I only lost 40lbs and have gained 10lbs back. Of course, having 2 children since my surgery didn't help I'm sure. I am very nervous about having another surgery. I keep telling myself "if I failed at the VBG then I will probably fail with the RNY". I really don't want to put my family through the whole 'first 2 months post-op depression thing' again. I remember how hard those first 2 months were. I had a VERY hard time getting over my mental addiction to food. Food has been my best friend since I was a kid.
When I had my VBG, there really wasn't much aftercare. I don't remember going to a nutritionist or being taught what to eat or not eat. I was basiclly told, call or come back if you have any problems, other than that you're on your own. I really feel that the after care at Sacred Heart is part of why Dr. Lord's patients succeed. I'm just so nervous. I've read that revisions are much more dangerous with much higher rates of complications. I'm not just worried about the immediate post-op period. My major concern is 3-4-5 years post-op.
Of course, I haven't had my initial consultation with Dr. Lord yet. I have a long list of questions and concerns. I hope he can alleviate most of my fears.
Wish me luck on another WLS journey.
