My husband finished his radiation treatments yesterday...woohoo. He did get pretty tired and very sore throat there at the end. He showed me his mask they made to fit him to receive his treatment (thank God for yahoo messenger and web cams). It was such a weird contraption. I am SO glad he has finished. We have booked him a flight home for the 9th. Man am I  excited for his arrival! I know our 3 year old is, too. We'll have him all to ourselves for a week then he will have to go back to Oklahoma, until possibly next May. I guess I've gotten used to his traveling and working like this thanks to the military. But now I'm ready for him to take a break and stay home for awhile.
I'm doing very well. Went to my first support group meeting and had a ball. Love to be able to meet others that have walked the same path I'm taking. They are a fountain of information. Also found out as long as I'm not taking any more pain meds, I can drive. I thought it was a strict-no driving before 2 weeks-kind of thing. That was music to my ears. Although I have to admit I have been driving my parents golf cart all around town this week (we live in a small town). That has been liberating. It was nice to be able to take my son to the library and to see the trains (too far to walk just yet). Getting my walks in through out the day. Can't wait until I get the ok to start using my bike.
Hope everyone has a good day!!! Time to walk

Home and feeling good

Sep 20, 2008

I'm home now! Getting my walking in and my fluids. I never thought I'd get to the day that I wouldn't feel hungry. I have to force myself to drink my protein shakes. They work the best for me. Also using some protein bullets to make sure I get my protein requirements in. Energy is coming back. Up to walking 1/4 mile 8 times a day. And it has to be the BEST time of the year to have it done. The weather here is wonderful, a cool crisp morning walk does wonders. Hope everyone is doing wellc. Have a great day!

Surgery date scheduled!

Aug 09, 2008

I am so excited. I finally have a surgery date! It will be Sept 16th, which will be easy to remember since it's my wedding anniversary. My surgeon will be going out of town and he will not perform a RNY 2 weeks prior to leaving town so if there are any problems, he would be the one taking care of them. The date will work out well for us. My husband will be finishing up with his radiation treatments so we'll both be on  the road to recovery. He told me he feels like he has a new lease on life so the sooner I have my surgery the better. For I will need it to keep up with him!

July 23, 2008 Update

Jul 23, 2008

Went for some  testing today. Had  to get an  EKG, chest x-ray, abdominal  ultrasound  and  a  ton  of  labwork.  Tech  told  me  gallbladder  looks  clear  so  that's  a  good  thing.  Had  appt  for  sleep  study  for  this  Sat  but  I  had  to  postpone  it  due  to  unexpected  guests  coming  in  this  weekend.  The  next  appt  I  could  get  was  for  Tues ,  Aug  5th.  I'll  then  be  able  to  call  doctors  office  to  schedule  appt  so  that  I  can  schedule  surgery.  It's  all  coming  together.
I  know  this  delay  has  happened  for  a  reason.  My  DH  has  just  been  diagnosed  with  throat  cancer.  We  just  got  results  last  Monday  from  his  biopsy.  He  is  currently  at  Ft  Sill,  OK  working  and  the  doctors  out  there  seem  to  be  top  notch.  He  saw  oncologist  on  Thurs,  had  CT  of  head  and  chest  on  Friday  and  got  results  from  that  yesterday.  Great news... no  other  sites  were  identified.  Seems  they  have  caught  it  in  the  very  earliest  of  stages.  He  will  need  to  go  through  7  weeks  of  radiation.  He  wants  me  to  continue  with  my  progress  to  surgery.  He  told  me  while  he  is  getting  healthier   and  I  should  not  be  denied  that  also.  We  have  faith  that  God  will  not  give  us  more  than  we  can  handle  and  He  will  get  us  through  this.
Take  care  and  I  will  update  once  I  get  my  date.

I'm Getting Closer

Jul 13, 2008

Had my first consult with Dr. McDevitt on Friday (7-11-08). I really like this man. He is so down to earth and makes me feel so comfortable. First time I can say that about a doctor, and I used to work with many of them. I had my twin sister tag along because I figured 2 pairs of ears was better than 1. After my exam, he thought it best to have a sleep study to make sure I'll have no complications with anesthesia. I also need a few more blood test, EKG and gallbladder U/S. His nurse will call me tomorrow after she schedules these. In my plan of things, I hope to get them done within the next week and half so I can get my last appt with surgeon on the 25th. Then, if everything works out, I'm hoping to have surgery on the 5th.

Hurry up to wait

Jun 14, 2008

I've had my first of two appts for the pshyc eval. Will be seeing him again on Monday (6-16-08) with one of my sisters in tow. The doctor was concerned my DH would not be coming with me to my appts. As he is in OK with work until possibly the beginning of next year, I do not feel I should wait. Besides, I want my man to see me thinner the next time I see him. I hope I am able to convince the doctor I have his full support in having this operation. I even tried to get him to call DH. Guess I will find out Monday if he gives me the go ahead. Wish me luck!
