41 weeks and 100 lbs down!
Nov 18, 2008
As of November 18th, 2008 I weighed in at 182 lbs...that's offically 100 lbs down from the day of my WLS. Now, scale fluctuates a pound up and a pound down for a few days before I stay below a certain weight...my BFF says to just stay off the scale for a few days until I stay down...but I still wanted to mark the first day that I got a 182 on the scale! So, here are my stats compared to the average WLS patient:
Start wt. 282 lbs. - ideal 140 lbs. - excess weight 142 lbs.
20% - Actual - 3 weeks after surgery -27 = 255 lbs.
36.6% - Actual -11 weeks and 6 days after surgery -52 = 230 lbs.
45.8% - Actual - 20 weeks and 1 day after surgery -65 = 217 lbs.
50.7% - Actual - 21 weeks after surgery -72 lbs = 210 lbs.
59.1% - Actual - 31 weeks after surgery -84 lbs = 198 lbs.
63.4% - Actual - 38 weeks after surgery -90 lbs = 192 lbs.
70.4% - Actual - 41 weeks after surgery -100 lbs = 182 lbs.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
This is the average for Gastric Bypass patients:
20% 6 weeks after surgery -28 = 254 lbs.
33% 12 weeks after surgery -47 = 235 lbs.
50% 30 weeks after surgery -71 = 211 lbs.
67% 52 weeks after surgery -96 = 186 lbs.
38 weeks post op progress

As I have always said, I had WLS so my DH and I could *hopefully* have a baby. I have about 45 more lbs that I would like to lose and I would like to have it gone by spring of '09. I think it is totally doable. My surgeon says that I don't have to wait the 18 months that you read about to get pregnant, rather until I have lost the weight that I want to lose. He said that it is harder to lose weight with WLS after you have had a child.
As for how I feel with the weight loss...I feel like my normal self. I am more willing to do things that, before the weight loss, I would be too scared to do. Too scared because of possible embarrassment due to my weight. I am not afraid of any chairs anymore. I love going for hikes and I don't get tired. I can run the bases in softball like nobody's business and I hardly get out of breath...before just running to 1st base killed me! I went to an amusement park this summer and didn't fear that the rides would break under the stress of my weight and that I would plummett to my death. I haven't been on an airplane since the WLS, but I have a Paris trip planned for the spring and don't have a fear in my head about the seats.
Those who know me, know that I am a shopper. It is very weird...being able to shop anywhere. I haven't tried all the stores...mostly because I don't think of them. I am so used to only shopping at 2 stores (Lane Bryant and Fashion Bug Plus) that I don't think to go to a bunch of stores. Sizes are very weird when you think about them. THis weekend I bought long john's. I looked on the back of the package and it said that sizes 14-16 needs a large and size 10-12 needs a medium...now I know that my 14s are too big for me and that I do have a pair of size 12 jeans...however I could NOT get my head wrapped around the idea that I would be in a medium. SO I bought the larges and got them home and...they are too big. SO, I am constantly battling with myself at the store that when I try things on...that I actually don't buy something that is too big.
BTW, I have two new pics posted. Well, I gotta get to work...here are my stats:

Amusement Park
Jun 24, 2008
I went to Six Flags Great America last Friday...and I fit in all the rides! I was so nervous that I wouldn't, because the last time I went it was very tight. The last time I went was about 5/6 years ago. Well, I fit into everything , no sweat, and all the belts I had to tighten up. I even did this thing called the Dare Devil Dive. It is this thing that they put you in a harness, pull you up 12 stories and then you have to pull a rip cord and it is basically a free fall. I have always wanted to do it, but was always afraid that I was too fat and that I would plummet to my death. Well, I did it and it was awesome!
Just thought I would share!
20 weeks and 1 day out = a little over 4 months

So, I am a little bit ahead of the average. I am just now coming off of a pretty good plateau. Between April 29th and May 30th, I only lost about 5 lbs. I know that a plateau is where you don't lose a pound for two or more weeks, but I am considering this a plateau. Since May 30th and June 18th I have lost 6 lbs. So, I feel that the weight lose is picking up again. I have not been so good about my vitimins...I am starting today to get back on the horse. I have been afraid of taking the vitimins because they are so big and I was afraid that they might get stuck. Also, good news...I am certain that I ovulated last week. Sorry if this is TMI, but when I realized what was happening I almost rushed in to have sex with my husband...then I realized HELLO, I am NOT allow to get pregnant, yet! So that was an exciting time. Also, I am going to Six FLags Great America this Friday...the first time in 5 years!
Other happenings...my husband who is 34 had a heart attack on May 5th. The heart attack was really a blessing in disguise. It was actually a symptom of much bigger problems. We found out that he has congestive heart failure, a very dangerous rhythem in his heart and a very enlarged heart (actually the biggest that they have ever seen in our hospital). A normal ejection fraction is 65% and my husband's is 13%. The ejection fraction is the percentage of blood that is pumped out of the heart when it pumps. Honestly, the night of the heart attack, I thought he was going to die. So, he was in the hospitl for a little over a week . He got an ICD implanted into his chest (this is a pacemaker/defibillator), so if his heart going into the "sudden death rhythm" the ICD will shock his heart out of it. They also, regulated his meds. We are about 6 weeks out and he got to go back to limited work this past monday. He's really happy to be back at work. He will be going for a ECG in the next few weeks to see if his ejection fraction has imporved and then we are going to the University of Chicago because they are putting him on the heart transplant list. SO, it's been a crazy time for us.
We are lucky to have such a strong support system and I thank god everyday for my family and friends for being here with me. I don't know what I would do without them!
10 weeks and 1 day out
Apr 16, 2008
As of this morning I am down to 233, that's a loss of 49 lbs in 10 weeks and 1 day. I am pretty pleased with the progress so far. As I have said before...I can't tell a difference in the mirror, I can just feel it in my clothes. I guess I am sick-o. Speaking of sick, today I got sick...not puke...just really nauseated. I think I over ate at lunch, sometimes I can't tell when I am doing this. I have never dumped from sugar because I have not eaten it since surgery....but I do get sick when I over fill the pouch. ISince I have never dumped from sugar, I don't know if the nausea that I have experienced is the same as dumping from sugar. It takes about 45 minutes to get over, I get a little sweaty, really nauseated, and tired. Is it terrible? No, but it certainly isn't fun.
It's spring and I have been cleaning closets like crazy. I am running low on clothes. I am good on shirts...but my pants are not going to last me much longer. I think the smallest size is an 18 in my closet right now. I have cleaned out everything that is too big for me...5 garbage bags of clothes. Whoa! I am really looking forward to going to an amusement park this summer. Playing softball is already different...I know I have only lost 49 lbs, but getting around on the softball field is totally different now! I feel like I can squat down to get a ball much easier than before...running is better, and I just have more confidence. At this point in time, I do think that having the surgery is the best thing that I have ever done for myself.
Down 38 lbs!!
Mar 23, 2008
I had my 6 week check up with my surgeon last week. Their record show that I had lost 27 lbs. I am not too concerned that their number is different than mine...I weigh myself at home at the same time in the morning (around 7:45 am), in my PJs and after I have gone to the bathroom (you know what I mean!!!
) hehe! They weighed me after breakfast, in the afternoon, with jeans, tennis shoes etc. So, I think my home number is more accurate. No harm, though. Some food favorites:
Edy's No Sugar Added Fruit Bar Popsicles
Boca Burgers - Flame Grilled - no bun, w/provolone cheese, mustard and pickels
Tortilla w/ shredded chicken in it from our local authentic mexican restaurant
Salad - any kind
Quizno's Sammies
Bagel chips and hummus
Great Value Cherry Limeade that you add to your 16.9 oz bottled water
No sugar added fudgcicles
Tall Skinny Caramel Latte
Iced Tea w/ splenda
Egg Beaters
I think that I am lucky because I havent' had any trouble with any foods. I am stucking with no more than 9 grams of fat per serving and no more than 2 grams of sugar per serving (unless of course it is from natural sources - can't have a sugar in the first 6 ingredients). I haven't dumped...because I haven'teaten anything with a lot of sugar or fat. I have eated too fast and gotten nauseated (this has happened twice) and I think that I have over filled the pouch twice and I got nauseated, and I have gotten a bite of PB&J stuck twice. The stuck food wasn't terrible, it just felt like a little rock in my chest. So out of 7 weeks I think I have done pretty well!
Well, gotta hop in the shower and go to work...busy day ahead of me!
A little over a month out!

13 days out
Feb 17, 2008
So, here's the hospital stuff:
I got there at about 10:45 AM (Surgery @11:00 AM). They took me immediately to do some blood work, I think a preggo test (that's a laugh!). Then I got to sit with the fam, while we waited for the results. Finally, all was clear and they took me back to prep. I got weighed, got changed, donned a jauntey paper hat and then laid in the bed. The nurses were beyond great, it was actually like a comedy routine in there! It helped to put what nerves I was having at rest. I got to see my family one by one and then was taken to surgery at about 1:00.
Of course you don't remember anything about the surgery, I do know that they put in a breathing tube (during the surgery only) and they catheterize you (sorry about the spelling folks!) <-----that stays in until well after surgery.
I guess I was a little out of my mind when I came out of surgery. Because I had it Laproscopic, they "blow you up" with gas so they can steer clear of your organs and whatnot during the surgery. I have to say the gas was quite painful. I remember the nurses telling me to lay back down and to stop kicking my legs. I remember flashes of my family in my room, lots of drugs and then being told that they had given me all the pain drugs that they could already. I also remember being made to do my breathing contraptions and really trying to do well...but I must have been falling asleep on every breath because they kept telling me to breath. Then I remember the pain dying down and then I was able to rest.
They get you up to walk very soon after the surgery, and I was in no shape to do so...it was very hard for me. I had been taking Iron before surgery because I had become Anemic (from my PCOS). So, I went into surgery with my blood at a 9 and after surgery my blood was a 6.5. I guess normally people are at 13 before and come out of surgery at 11. So, I had to have 2 units of blood (transfusion). That f-er burned going into my wrist and hand! However, I did feel better after it was all over and I was able to do better with the walking.
I'll type more later...gotta get ready to pop into work for the first time in 2 weeks!
