12 Weeks Post Op (3 Months)
May 27, 2009
Well I am three months post op and am loving the experience. It has had it ups and downs but I would not change it for the world. I am getting support from all my friends and co-workers. I have been open and told everyone about my surgery at this point, even people I do not know that well. I am not ashamed of the surgery and am happy I did this for myself and I let everyone know it!
I am able to eat pork, beef, chicken, salad, which are all things I thought I would have major problems with. I still have some issues when I eat more solid food once in a while where it feels caught and I feel gaggy. Again, worth all the pluses.
I have so much more energy now, I am able to play with my kids easier
, I can fit inside booths at restaurants with room to spare
, I can walk without getting winded and I can climb stairs without getting out of breath!
Amazing!
I have been walking 4.1 miles about four times a week with my friend. We are motivating each other! The next thing I want to work on it doing exercises for my stomach!
I weighed tonight at 220 pounds which means I am down 54.5 pounds! Whoo hoo!

9 weeks Out from Surgery
May 06, 2009
I just measured my inches and was impressed to see the results
Original 6 Weeks Post Op 9 Weeks Post Op
Hips 56 52 49 1/2
Tummy 55 52 49 1/2
Chest 52.5 50 47
Neck 16.5 15.5 15
The inches are great to see! My husband keeps telling me I need new clothes but I do not want to buy anything yet. I am making do with what I have! I am lucky because I had saved clothes from a long time ago that were smaller sized. So I have a couple pair of shorts and pants that fit ok.
I am a little discouraged because I feel like the scale is not my friend. It likes to stay at the same number for a few days! My advice to anyone doing this, step away from the scale.....do not weigh yourself everyday! It drives you nuts! My husband weighs himself every morning and night so the scale is always out so of course I have to weight myself!!! AGGHHH! I had a small goal I wanted to be at by the beginning of June and I do not think that is going to happen, and that is ok. I have to tell myself that.
I am working out at the gym and have my first training session with the trainer tomorrow. I am excited about that! Hopefully the scale will start to move soon! I am down about 46 pounds right now at 228. I have come a long way and I love when I get compliments about how I look. My co-workers seem to be happy for me for the most part now so that is awesome! The person I was having an issue with has apologized as well.

8 Weeks Out Yesterday
Apr 29, 2009
Quick post to say I am 8 weeks out. I am doing good with eating my protein and drinking my liquids daily. I am not throwing up as often anymore. Eggs still seem to cause me some issues, not sure why, and chicken if it is not really moist as well!
I weighed myself at home and was down 43 pounds at the 8 week mark! That is truly amazing! I have gone down two sizes in pants and in shirts! Very exciting and my husband keeps telling me to buy new clothes!
I went and joined the gym here, I get a free two month membership. I am very excited! I worked out yesterday and plan to go tomorrow as well! I am scheduling my first training session with a trainer too!
I am very excited about all that is happening now and hope to continue with such great progress!

6 Week Appt
Apr 14, 2009
Well great news! I am cleared to start exercising now. Whoo hoo! I am actually really excited about this! I have been walking already but now can do anything!
I have lost between 36-39 pounds depending on if you go by my scale or the doctors scale. At home I have no clothes on and weigh first thing in the AM. When I went to him my clothes weighed two pounds and I had drank my protein shake for breakfast! But at this point I am just HAPPY the scale is going down!
I also just measured my inches and was impressed to see the results

Six Weeks Tomorrow Post Op
Apr 13, 2009
Boy do I have alot I need to catch up on. Last Tues I ate some canned chicken breat with shredded cheddar cheese, and cream cheese as a dip. I ate it plain. Well about literally 10 minutes after I ate it started gagging and was not feeling good. I began to throw up! YUCK!
This continued the rest of the day, I could not drink anything and I just had a stuck feeling in my body. I tried to eat and drink but anything I tried I would throw up again!
It got very frustrating. The next morning I talked to the bariatric nurse from my surgeon's office, who spoke to my surgeon, and they thought I had stenosis. They scheduled me to have an EGD done on Fri morning. I had to go through a couple more days of the same, trying to eat or drink and then throwing up. So Fri I went in and apparently I had a piece of food stuck!!!! AGGGHHH! I did this to myself is all I could say afterward!
I was very mad at myself but got over it quickly. I felt much better as soon as it was removed. Dr H did dilate my stoma a little bit as well while he was in there, so hopefully this will not happen again to me! I am being so careful!
Also, I went back to work a week and a half ago and have found out that although I chose not to tell anyone at work about my surgery, that everyone was speculating before I even came back if I had some other surgery done.
I love that I am being talked about negatively at work now! I did not tell anyone because I have heard too many times the comments made about other people that have had WLS and why did they do that to themselves, etc. I did not want to hear that before my WLS. So I chose not to tell anyone. One girl knew because she is in my support group from having WLS. She has been asked about what I really had done, and has heard them talking about me saying they are sad and angry that I did not trust them to tell them. Now the people are colder to me at work. When I was choking last week at work on food I had tried to eat no one asked about it. It is more like small talk conversation with me right now. I wish I had just told them as this really sucks to be treated this way, it was such a personal decision for me and that is why I chose not to tell them and now that I am post-op I do not care if they know but if I tell them the truth think it will be worse for me now. They have to of guessed I am sure, I have lost a noticeable amount. My pants are huge on me. I have started wearing smaller shirts but you can definitely tell I have lost weight!
Well I think that is about it for now, I will find out my six week stats at my appt tomorrow! Till then.......

Three Weeks Tomorrow Post Op
Mar 23, 2009
Well tomorrow is three weeks post op for me. I am excited! I have been doing well with the diet and knock on wood have not gotten sick yet! WHOO HOO! I have been going thru some abdominal pain on my left side that I have been assured twice now that it is just muscular pain from where all the larger instruments went inside me. It sure hurts though! It was really bad this past weekend at my dad's house and I decided to ride it out till Sunday. I then called the Dr's office to have the on call Dr paged since it had been so many hours and it was still the same! Again he said it sounded muscular! So we are going with that! it is much better today! Other than those little pain blips everything else has been awesome!
I went through a little mourning of food at first where I was mad that I could not eat food when it smelled so good in here! Now I do not care and try to keep myself busy while they are eating their regular dinner! It helps too that I am seeing a difference in myself already I think too! It makes me validate my decision even more that I did this for myself!
Tomorrow I move on to pureed foods and am happy about that! I know alot of people do not like that stage but I am fine with it! Scrambled eggs, beans, applesauce, soft meats I can handle that! I am ready!
To date I believe I am down about 27 pounds at 3 weeks out, that is going by my scale which is different than the doctor scale so I am adding a couple pounds since my scale seems lighter! My husband has told me he can tell around my middle area that I have lost weight. I can definitely tell in my chest too! My brother told me yesterday that he can really tell! I am excited!
I have a tendency to wear baggy clothes so I know it will be hard for many people to tell for a while since I am in hiding! I am glad that I had the surgery when I did though as there are many people that do not know I had this done and since I do layer and wear baggy clothes they may just think I lost weight once it is warm enough to not be so layered!!!! I figured not everyone had to know what I was doing since this is personal and this was a great time of year to have the surgery!
I am thinking about going to the informational meeting for people considering the surgery thru my Dr on Wed. I am told I should go as it may help them to see that someone close out from surgery is ok! There are some wonderful girls that go that are farther out that told me that! I think they are right! It is nice to know that I am up and moving around and getting back to normal, I think that would have been nice for me to hear too at my info session, so if I can go I think I will! It will be a good mental booster for me to I think!
Well time to go make dinner for my family! I think I am going to have a protein shake! I actually really like them!

One Week Post OP
Mar 10, 2009
Well I went to the DR today for my one week post op appt. My incisions all looked good, I got my drain removed, and talked about the next step for my diet, full liquids for 2 weeks. I found out that I am down 17 pounds to date! WHOO HOO! I am excited!
I have had quite a bit of pain, more than I thought I would. I had to get a refill on my Lortab meds and have had to double the dose a couple times. I am thinking of taking some more time of work instead of going back to work after 2 weeks. I want to be healed. After all I cannot do housework for 4 weeks, so how am I going to walk around for 8 hours. I am glad the pain is manageable with the meds but hope to be off them soon. A drawback is you cannot drive if you are taking them all the time!!!
I also am so happy that today I was able to eat creamed soup, strained, today! I had baked potato for lunch and cream of muchroom at dinner! It tasted like heaven after being on clears for 9 days and the pre-op diet before that! Tomorrow I get to add one more new food, which I am adding my protein shakes!
I guess that is it for now! It is my youngest daughters birthday tomorrow, she will be 5 so I got to get some sleep! Busy day!

9 Days till Surgery and Day 2 of Liquid Diet Prior to Surgery
Feb 22, 2009
Hello everyone and thank you for all the kind words and comments you have given me! I appreciate all of the warm comments and support! I am definitely feeling like I need support right now.
I am on my second day of liquids and my stomach just keeps growling. I am doing a 10 day pre-op high protein liquid diet to help shrink my liver prior to surgery. I am finding my shakes to be fine and they taste good even with the protein powder I am adding! I am just finding myself hungry today. Yesterday I was fine but today my stomach is growling like crazy! My husband is being veru supportive. He has tried the shakes too and likes them, he is going to drink one for breakfast in the mornings now since he normally skips breakfast! He told me I need to be strong and I know I do. I knew these first few days may be tough......I think I am going to go drink some broth. I go to work in a while so hopefully that will help since I will be busy I am sure!
I just keep thinking about the end result and cannot wait! 9 days till surgery and counting.........

Surgery is Scheduled!!! WHOOO HOOO!
Feb 13, 2009

That is me doing my happy dance after getting my date for surgery!!! I am so excited!
I am going to go to my surgeon's office on Thurs the 19th with my husband to have my last visit before the surgery. I am also going to go get all my pre-op blood work and tests done after the appt!
The surgery is scheduled for the 3rd of March! It is at 7:30 AM at Centegra Memorial Hospital in Woodstock! I have to be there at 6:15 AM which I am not even going to complain about because I am so happy to just have the surgery scheduled! I feel so lucky!
I feel like this is going to help me feel so much better mentally and physically! I know my friends and family are being very supportive which is so wonderful and comforting. I also know that they will never understand how much this surgery means to someone like me that has had to deal with the disease of obesity. I am looking forward to not having to be on a rollar coaster with my weight anymore, I will finally, finally, have the tool that I believe I need to help me live a happier, healthier life!
