My story is pretty typical. I am a 38 yr. old, mother of 2 teenagers, and have been married almost 19 years. I work as a paraprofessional specializing in autism. I also am attending college and am working toward my degree in Special Education. As for my weight, it's been a problem since I was about 12. My father became very sick that year and I used food to deal with it. He died a year later, when I was 13, and it's been downhill from there. I have tried many weight loss methods over the years....mostly weight watchers and they would work temporarily and then I'd fall right back into old habits. I first started thinking about wls surgery about five years ago. At the time, I thought it was not for me. I wasn't ready. I'm ready now. Some reasons that I want the surgery include health (prevention of diabetes), mobility and the ability to do whatever I want, and appearance. When I'm not thinking about the surgery, I work, go to school, go to the gym, hang out with friends, read, letterbox, play with my dogs, and live an otherwise full life.
