Baystate Medical Center

"The day nurses were a little hard to deal with, they did what they needed to, however I had to demand to get up and WALK! The night nurses were a god-send! Friendly, sweet, and helpfull, also very encouraging. I guess they can be more attentive, there is less to do at night. I don't hold it against the day nurses."

Imtiaz Munshi

"PLEASE NOTE: These are just my personal impressions of my own personal experience and I making no statements about what other people may experience. Upon meeting Dr. Munshi, I was relieved to see that he was somewhat young. I don't know why. I think it is that he is still open to new advances in technology and that he seemed a little more light-hearted (don't get me wrong, I am not saying older surgeons are cold :P). He was very nice, he had a great (dry) sense of humor and was very good and patient when explaining the procedure. He was honest about some of his past mishaps. He was very good about asking if I had questions. He definintey made me aware of the risks and told me not to be afraid. It was great to know what I am risking, but I still feel comfortable with my decision (insurance approval pending). I have to be in the 6 month pre-op program, for insurance purposes, but this is good, I can practice eating habit changes. The nutritionist, Judy Dowd was absolutely great, very caring and upbeat. Overall my first pre-op visit was very positive at Baystate Hospital in Springfield MA. 8-12-02: I have been to more meetings with Judy Dowd and Dr. Munshi and still I really like them. They go out of their way to be helpful and are very encouraging. They make sure you are doing the right things so you can be more prepared for the surgery. Dr. Munshi still answers all my questions. He seems to be in a rush everytime I see him, but I don't think I have ever met a busy doctor who wasn't in a rush. At this point I am still very happy that I made the decision to stay in my area (Western Mass) and not head out to Boston. I have had another surgery at Baystate and found that whole experience to be more comfortable because of the other surgeon I had and the nurse staff. Hopefully I will be so lucky with the nurse staff for my Weight Loss surgery."
