I was always a big girl (size 10/12) but never got really overweight until I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and put on lithium at age 24. I packed on 80 pounds in 10 months and then 50 more over the next ten years, going from 160 to an all time high of 293.
I decided to get weight loss surgery while standing on the beach by my condo on Sanibel Island in Jan 2006. I had been mulling the decision over for some time, and I was standing watching the sun go down when I said "This time next year when I stand in this spot, things are going to be different. I don't want to go on this way for another year." And that was it. The decision was made.
As soon as I got home I made an appointment at Barix Clinic in Langhorne PA. My first consult was Feb 2007 and my surgery was July 1st. I have no regrests whatsoever. For me this was the right choice. I can't tell anyone else whether to make it or not because I think that it is a very personal decision. I thought Barix Clinic was the best and I received outstanding care there.
My doctor is also one of the most exceptional people I have ever met.
So, I am waiting to go back to Florida this January, stand in the spot I did last year when I said I wanted things to be different, and thank God that they are different.
