3 Years, where did the time go?

Jul 10, 2012

It's now been 3 years since my lapband surgery and life is pretty normal.  My weight has not really changed in the last 18 months, I remain somewhere around 175 or 110lbs gone.  The part I'm most proud of is the ability to maintain my loss.  I know this is the toughest part.  I am working out these days, on the treadmill 3 to 4 times per week for 40 minutes at a time.  It's not helping lose pounds but I do think I'm in better shape.  I'd love to lose more but realize that I would really need to monitor what I'm eating and I just am not interested in doing the work at this time.  Another challange for me is some people in my life continue to focus on my weight, they seem to forget there is much more to me than just my size.  I try to change the conversation, it's not that I'm unwilling to discuss my journey but more that I don't only want to be thought of only as the person who lost weight with lapband surgery.  I'm sure others have experienced this too.  When I said life is pretty normal, I really meant it.  I've learned what I can eat, what foods will work and what to avoid.  I understand portion sizes and really don't have many problems.  I would still highly recommend surgery to anyone considering it.  It's a crazy change to your old habits but the benefits totally overrule anything negitave!

1 Year Bandiversary!

Jul 12, 2010

Hi!  I've just pasted my one year since surgery and couldn't be happier with the outcome.  I've lost 95lbs so far!  I was trying to reach that 100 in 1 year but it just wasn't in the cards.  The weight loss has significantly slowed but I haven't had a fill in over 3 months.  My band is currently at 6.3 cc's and I will be thinking about a fill in the next couple of months if my weight doesn't change.  Pre surgery I was taking blood pressure medication and about 3 months ago was taken off that.  That was the only thing I was medicated for.  I still have a way to go, I'd like to see another 50lbs come off but I'm being patient and understanding that this will take time.  I wish all of you reading this much success!

2 weeks post op today

Jul 23, 2009

Well today is two weeks after surgery and I'm almost back to 100%.  The band feels extremely tight in the morning and I'm not able to consume much at this point.  I get about 2 heaping  teaspoons of what ever "milkshake" consistency food I choose and I keep drinking water.  My brain is totally ready for real food but I can tell the body's not!  As of this morning I'm down 20 lbs.  It's very exciting to see the weight coming off and to know it won't be back this time.  I'm taking one day at a time and can't wait to try more solid foods tomorrow!

6 Days After Surgery

Jul 15, 2009

Hi, today is day 6 after surgery and I'm still not feeling 100%.  Still have soreness in the surgery area and feel like I can sleep all the time.  I'm taking it one day at a time and allowing my body to do what it needs to heal.  I'm able to 'eat" think liquids now, creamed soups, yogurt and protein shakes, but still having trouble consuming 64 ounces of water each day.  I never feel hungry but realize that the nutrition is a big key to weight loss as well as recovery.  I would have liked to have been better prepared for surgery.  I didn't expect it to take this long to feel better.  I know we are all different but most people talk about feeling better with in a day or two, returning to work and even talk about doing house work.  I was in no condition to do any of those things and am just now feeling like cooking dinner tonight might be a possibility.  I thing my post operative appointment is tomorrow so I'll be back to report how my first weeks weight loss went.

Jun 10, 2009

I finally have a surgery date!  July 9th...  Insurance approval came on Monday 6/8 but we're off to Chicago for a family vacation on June 26th for 10 days, thought it would be best to wait until we return.

Surgery in about a month!

Apr 23, 2009

After 6 months of weight loss counseling for insurance approval, I hope May is the month for surgery!  Still waiting for psychological exam, and then should be able to set the date.  I have been obese most of my adult life.  I was able to lose and keep off some weight in my mid teens but once out of high school, I just continued to gain.  I'm 43, just 2 weeks shy of my 44 birthday, married to an amazing husband and have 2 great kids.  I want to be able to better enjoy my life with my kids.  They are helping me stay young but my weight is getting in the way!  I'm about 5'4" tall and am currently 286 lbs, have already been diagnosed with high blood pressure, high cholesterol,  and don't want diabetes to catch me.  I'm ready for the biggest challenge of my life and the new lease that comes with it!
