James Stephen Scott

"My Surgeon was great. I heard him speak at seminar, and then at the Obesity Help meeting in St. Louis. He seemed very knowledgeable and nice. My consult was very short, but Dr. Scott got to the point and asked if I had any questions. Since I had done my homework, I really didn't have many. I believe he's the best surgeon around. Two girls in my dietitary consult group came from Kansas City to St. Louis to have Dr. Scott because they thought he was the best in the state. I believe so too, especially if you want it down LAP. He does discuss the risks, but points out that obesity has many risks too. I liked it that he said the ability to lose weight wasn't my fault. Morbid obesity fights you to lose weight by going into some super starvation mode. For the first time in my life, someone told me it wasn't my fault. Boy that felt good. He talked to me briefly the morning before surgery. He spoke with my family after surgery and was very nice. I saw his partner in the hospital, and didn't see him again until one week appointment. If you want a doctor who will fall all over you, he's not it. But if you want the best in the operating room -- pick Dr. Scott. I felt great right after surgery, and it just gets better! He very much stresses that you have to stick to the diet guidelines. He doesn't want you eating solids right away. He stresses that this is a tool, and the choices we make -- make a big difference. I would rate Dr. Scott 10 out of 10. However, he's moving to Columbia, but keeping his practice in Wentsville. So if you want him after September, call his Wentzville office. "

St. Alexius NewStart

"I liked the way they gave food vouchers to the person who was staying the night so they didn't buy the food. They also brought in plenty of covers and pillows. They checked on me through the night, but not too often. I slept OK the first night, but was ready to go home and slept a little less the second night. The staff was excellent -- they knew what they were doing and were very helpful. I loved the Finch bird display in the large family waiting room. I walked to see the birds several times. It was a motivator to get moving. I also liked the fact it was a private room. Even the radiologist was extremely nice during the leak test. And once I passed the blue ice test, they brought in apple juice, a frozen pop and regular ice chips very quickly. They knew how thirsty I was. If I had to choose St. Alexius again -- I would! My only suggestion is that they bring more liquid between meals, so you get started on the drinking habit."
