Thomas Oweis

"My surgery will be performed by 2 surgeons. Dr Oweis and Dr. Duckett. I have heard WONDERFUL things about Dr. Duckett however I have never met him. I am a nurse recruiter and many of my employees have worked with him or know him personally. My first impression of Dr. Oweis is that he was in a hurry. I felt very rushed and a little upset when I had left. I do not want to be on an assembly line of fat people. The office staff is very nice..well the main person I spoke to was Beth. She always had excellent follow through and called me whenever I needed something. They were always able to answer my questions quickly and effectively. I understand that physicians are going to be busy but this is life changing. I guess I wanted him to be a bit more sympathetic, understanding and excited for me. I wanted to hear that this surgery will be wonderful for me and the outcome will be amazing. I guess he cannot make that assumption though. As I stated before I hope that he does not rush surgery they way he does appointments. I did have the oppurtunity to meet Dr. Duckett and he is very nice. I did not remember too much of him from the hospital because I was still coming out of the anesthesia. When I scheduled my one week post op the office tried to schedule me with Dr. Oweis and I refused. They then gave me an appointment with Dr. Duckett. His bedside manner is much more comforting and calm. He seemed to care a little bit more. I have been told in the past that surgeons do their surgeries and typically do not have the best bedside manner....but I do not care...I am a person who deserves to be treated like one. Good job Dr. Duckett for actually making me feel comfortable!"

"My leg compressor cuffs went out. I buzzed a nurse at 12am and she came in and said in a harsh tone, "What do you want?" That is not the appropriate way to speak to a patient what-so-ever. She then had to order these cuffs from downstairs. An hour went by and she did not bother to check in with me so I again pushed my call light. She came in and was clearly upset that I interupted her evening. I told her that I could not fall asleep knowing that I did not have the cuffs on to prevent blood clots. She then said, "Like I said we had to oder them and they are not in yet". You know how I feel about that....Then walk your lazy 3rd shift butt DOWNSTAIRS and get them so I can sleep or at least let me know. This was a difficult situation for me to be in because I am a nurse recruiter and have many close contacts at many hospitals in the area....I am not happy to know that I do not staff that hospital although my QUALITY nurses would be an assett to their company!"
