Fairview - University Medical Center

"I had a generally good experience. The nurses were all fabulous- I had good experiences with all of them. My pain was managed well, although when I started having nausea, it took over four hours for me to receive any medication. The nurses were generally attentive to my needs and responsive to the call button. The one incident on non-attentiveness was that at one point, I went over 14 hours asking for shower help without receiving it. I think they thought it was lower priority than pain management, etc. I really liked how all of the specialists were under one roof. The following trooped through my bedroom at some point: My surgeon, the residents, the endocrinologists, occupational therapy, physical therapy and even opthamology (I got blue contrast dye in my eye during surgery and they wanted to make sure I was 100% ok, so I got a bedside eye exam!) The view from the window on the lounge on the bariatric floor (7B) was beautiful. Having somewhere pretty to walk helped make it easier. I had three different roommates during my six night stay, but that's to be expected as people come and go. Overall, not a bad experience. Remember that a hospital's job isn't to make you so comfortable that you stay forever- it's to get you ready to go home!"

Henry Buchwald

"Dr. Buchwald definitely knows what he is doing, and you can feel it from the moment you meet him. I went in to my pre-op consult knowing that I wanted a revision to DS from lap band, and he was very confident about his ability to do it. He answered all of my questions in a satisfactory way.rnrnMy actual surgery went off without a hitch. I have had no complications thus far and I am healing well, both my incision and I assume the inside parts. Dr. Buchwald came by my room twice while I was in the hospital, and caught me being an obnoxious crabapple. He had a great sense of humor about it, and cheered me up quite a bit.rnrnFuture patients should know that Dr. Buchwald has a very busy schedule, because is extremely skilled at both virgin surgeries and revisions. While I've heard good things about other doctors in his practice, he stands out as the best and for revision surgery, I would prefer someone of his incredible 77 years of experience. You will have to wait to see him, and you will have to wait to have your surgery, but he is worth the wait!"

Jenny Wetterstein

"Jenny is incredibly knowledgeable and compassionate and is a great listener. However, as she is committed to making sure that each patient is as prepared as possible before surgery, you will probably have to see her at least twice. She is not the type of psychologist that will give you the MMPI-2 and let you walk out the door with a recommendation. This can be, at times, extremley frustrating, but it is good to know that she will not compromise her professional integrity to recommend someone who she truly believes to not be ready."

Janelle Lund

"Janelle makes sure to explain things very well and is quite willing to answer any questions you may have. However, she is not a member of Dr. Margo's Bariatric team and therefore had slightly different views on pre surigcal nutrition than they do. If you see Janelle (and I do recommend her) it is a good idea to also clear her recommendations with your own bariatric team."

Carol Romnes

"Carol suggested RNY to me. She had a packet of information available and filled out a prior authorization the same day. She was very careful when taking my medical history and has been very non-judgemental about my weight. She understands that I don't have much chance of keeping weight off with diet and excersise alone. I would recommend her and New Spirit Women's Clinic to anyone. (I would like to add that the clinic also serves men and children.) Update 5/9/05: I am very sorry to report that Carol has retired. I would recommend Dr. Kristin Johnson or Sue Koprowski, FNP, also at New Spirit Women's Clinic, in her place."
