Gotta start somewhere...
Jan 16, 2008
Well, this is my first posting on this website even though I have been roaming it for awhile now. I have my final consult scheduled for February 20, 2008 and hope to have the surgery the first or second week of March. In my roaming on the OH website I was struck by the support of all the other members and just wanted whoever reads this to know that your testimonials and postings are what made me finally get the ball rolling - so thank you.
Guess I should start by introducing myself...I'm Karen a 46 year old mother of two boys (Brandon 25 and Justin 20) married to the most wonderful man, Bob, for 23 years. Overall my life is pretty damn good - my kids turned out ok - no serial killers yet and my husband tells me all the time that he could care less whether I lose 100 lbs or gain 100 lbs - he loves me just the same. He has always been like that I am a very lucky woman - but then again so is he - afterall he has me!!
I have battled with my weight since just after birth and have yo-yoed up and down forever. About 8 years ago I went on a program similar to Nutrisystem and became a gym rat and lost 75 pounds. Well, my father got really sick, I ended up doing extended hospice for him and within about 2 years, packed it all (plus some) on. I am at the point right now that I have no energy, am desperatly desireous of a change and realize that this surgery is my opportunity to use it as a tool to finally make a change that will stick. I know I have to change my lifestyle and habits PERMANENTLY and I am really looking forward to it.
For those of you that actually kept reading through my boring diatribe, I will say that I hope to be able to add some humor - which is what has gotten me through so far...I may be the fat girl, but fortunately I have had my personality to fall back on (not really any other choice!) I am really excited to start moving forward and happy to be a part of the OH community. I do have some questions ...I dont know what to expect as far as returning to work after the laproscopic lap band - I would love to hear some other experiences. I am a paralegal so I mostly sit at a desk all day. Thank you for any insight. Hoping for a long and SUCCESSFUL association with all of you - thanks for getting me this far.
