Karen, Keep going to the doctor every month, then have them send the appeal letter again the first of December. I am sure what has happened to you will also happen to me. I have Aetna and I am waiting for approval. I have not have 6 mos of continuous monitoring, I have only been trying all kind of diets for 40 years, but I am sure they will stick by the 6 month monitoring. geeshhh.. So hang in there.. I pray yours approval comes thru anyway.. Hugs. Carol

Hi Karen... My name is Kristine and I recently got approved BUT not without a LONG and drawn out waiting period of just what you are hearing...It is my opinion you should continue forth with the Doctors notes because I know in Maryland where I am at it is written into the law that the insurance companies have the right to ask for 6 months of Doctors supervised notes... that is 6 consecutive months... so anything past doesn’t really count unless it is from month to month notes. I started my journey in January 2003 this year. I knew in the back of my head I wouldn’t get to have my surgery until Sept. of this year (which is when I am scheduled). In January I saw my PCP and discussed this with him, about WLS and such. In February I saw the surgeon I was referred to (Dr. Barry Greene). My surgeon requires you have a whole bunch of tests run (sleep apnea, upper endoscopy ECT...) before he will ever submit to your insurance company. I did all my tests and in April they submitted my paperwork. I got a VERY fast response from my insurance company. The answer was they wanted 6 months of doctors supervised weight loss notes. Now since I had started in Jan i have those months already under my belt... So I had only until June to get thru. Which I did. AND I got approved within a week after I completed my 6 months of Doctors notes. Unfortunately for us the law (in Maryland at least) says they can ask for 6 months of doctors notes. Even if you fall well above the BMI limit which is stated in Maryland to be 35 BMI with co-morbidities OR 40 or higher. Basically whichever as long as you are one of the two. I myself have a BMI of I believe 57. It almost seemed like the insurance company wanted you worse off or at least as bad as you can get before they approve... I say jump thru their hoops... Do what they want... If you have a law in your state on your side... they can’t really deny if you fall within the guidelines. BUT they CAN DELAY... BLAH!!! It is all politics *sighs* Good luck and my thoughts are with you :-)

Hi Karen, my name is Brenda and I have Aetna insurance too. I appealed a total of 3 times and they did approve me after 3 months of frustration. I hope you can keep at them and they approve of you too. I am a native Texan and I do miss it. Texas ia a state of mind that only people from there know anything about. I'm from Waco and have been in the Orlando area for almost 5 years. I will say a prayer for you and keep your chin up all will be allright...Brenda from Apopka, FL
