My Journey

Hello,
I am a new member here. I have thought about having this surgery for a few years now. My BMI is about 57. When the scales reached 326, I knew I wasn't gonna live long at that rate.
I have started the insurance hoops to jump, found a surgeon and am now going to a psychologist for my second visit tomorrow. I had my heart set on the lap band surgery, however my insurance will not cover lap band for anyone who has a BMI over 40. I am scared of the RNY, but I know it is impossible for me to lose the 55 plus pounds to qualify for the lap band.
I am afraid my stomach will stretch back out again and I will gain my weight back. I too am afraid of surgery, all the risks. I also have to quit smoking, and that is just as bad as me giving up my food!
I too, want to be able to walk again, excercise and do the things I used to. Honestly I can not walk to far because my ankles feel like they are spraining on me.
The psychologist has me writing down a food journal. I do okay, but it depresses me when I can't eat a little candy or have that tator tot when I want it at night while watching TV before going to bed. It seems as if it is taking such a long time to get to having the surgery! The psychologist said "I wasn't ready". Now what does that mean?

At 55 years old I had managed to creep up the scales to 326 pounds. It was time to do something about my weight. I could not walk or stand without being in pain. On July 25th, I had LAP R n Y at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. I can't believe I did this! I had no problems with the surgery and all the fears I had before surgery are past me now. I feel good!

Went to my primary Dr today and I weigh 296! I got up early this morning and did my walking. I feel so much better already!
