Eight weeks out
Jul 20, 2008
I am 8 weeks out now and pretty discouraged. I guess I thought the weight would pretty much fall off, but have only lost 20 pounds so far. I was unable to eat for about 6 weeks because of an ulcer, but now find I can eat most anything. Working on getting my protein in. Beef is still hard for my stomach to handle, but I have found I do not get dumping syndrome, have eaten something sweet and have no problems. When I was sick they told me to eat anything to get something into my system, so of course I went for carbs. Now it is hard to transition back to protein. At first I was nauseated and vomiting a lot, but something happened this past week, and now if I eat too much or something I shouldn't, I get dry heaves but do not vomit. I really need to start losing. Need to get motivatd to start exercising. Seems like I lost more on a regular diet. I guess I am just discouraged. Hopefully things will turn around soon.
SIX WEEKS OUT
Jun 26, 2008
I am back on all foods now, but nothing realy sounds good. I have a marginal ulcer which has made getting my food in hard, but hopefully will start doing better soon. Slow eating has been the hardest for me, I guess I was always in a hurry and ate fast, and eating slow has been a new experience, one I haven't mastered yet. Also getting all the fluids/protein in has been hard, will need to work on that. Have lost 27 pounds since surgery, which is good for me since I lost 60 before surgery. The PAs at MMPC are wonderful and caring people, and have been so helpful. Also, I think this is the first time in my life I HAVEN"T been hungry (or thought I was). I am sure life will be wonderful in a few months. Can't wait to take a Christmas family photo this year, one I have dreaded every year before. Finding so many changes, like squeezing through tight areas, fitting in seats without hanging over or being afraid the chair would collapse, fitting into a size 18, so many things. Life is only going to get better.
Three weeks out
Jun 10, 2008
I am currently 3 weeks out from surgery and it has been very different. I have something called Roux syndrome, and have been so nauseated. Doctor put me on something new today, said he thinks it will help me feel better. Only 1% get this, but I guess I just happened to be a lucky one. I am so looking forward to feeling better and losing. I am not really losing right now because I have been unable to get my protein in because of the nausea. Sometimes I wonder if I did the right thing, but doc says 6 months out I won't even remember this. Hope so.
Home from surgery
May 27, 2008
Today is a week since I was sent home from the hospital. This has been a rough week, nauseated, and not able to get all my protein in, but it is still worth it. Looking forward to 2 months out when I can look back at all of this and smile.
Less than a week
May 13, 2008
I had my pre-op appointment today. Everything is all set. I can't believe everything is going to fast now that I have the approval. I still feel very excited and a little scared. I have less than a week to go. By this time next week I should be recovering.
Surgical approval
May 08, 2008
I found out today I have had approval for the surgery. I am so excited, and scared. The next 1-1/2 weeks should pass very quickly. The last 8 months during the approval process have passed very quickly. I am glad I did the medical problem first because the extra weight loss will help with the surgery.
