"I have a family history of staph infections (2 resulting in death). The surgeon and hospital respected my anxiety and I was in a private room with all hospital personnel practicing "universal precautions" thus alleviating a good deal of my "hospital anxiety". Staff was caring but not overly solicitious. My requests for privacy, peace, and quiet were respected within the boundaries of their responsibilities as my caregivers. All in all, a more than okay experience."

March 8, 2002: Met with Dr. Carl Rosati at Albany Medical Center today. I was mightily
impressed with his presentation and empathy for what we, the fighters, are going through
to achieve a better life.

Dr. Rosati paints no pretty picture. This is a huge decision, a radical and invasive
surgery, followed by a life-time committment. His approach is an hour (more like 1.5
hours) presentation to a number of candidates at one time. Diagrams, risks,
benefits, procedures, after-routines all discussed and questions welcomed and answered
succinctly in layman's terms. A lot of misconceptions addressed and resolved. I came
prepared and walked away ready to go.

The presentation was followed by a quick physical with the doctor and then one-on-one
discussion of plans for me specifically. This man looks you right in the eye and listens
to what you have to say. I was impressed and am totally ready to put myself in his hands
for the most dangerous part of this decision.

Total time from 1st visit with nutritionist on February 13, 2002 that was followed by
visit with dietician to my appt today with Dr. Rosati: 23 days!!! Surgery date set today
for April 8, 2002!!!
