09/28/09 Well here I am again. I had a VBG almost 6 years ago. It will be 6 years on 01/07/2004. I gained all my weight back plus some. Now at 348 lbs. I am super morbidly obese. I have severe sleep apnea, uncontrolled HTN, high cholesterol, GERD, peripheral edema and severe osteoarthritis of both knees where I need total knee surgery for both. I am now going to have a RNY at through Albany Medical Center Bariatrics. I have attended both pre-op conferences and found them to be phenomenal. I still have a lot work to do and am hoping to accomplish all of it before the 1st of the new year, as I do not want to have to pay my deductible over again next year. Anyways you probably are wondering why my VBG was unsuccessful. Well, first of all there was really no pre-op teaching nor aftercare. Then in 2006 I got diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had to have my thyroid removed. Then in 2008 I had my right knee scoped in the hopes to buy some time in lieu of a total knee. Then again in 2008 had to have my right Achilles tendon repaired and was laid up for 3 months. So, here I go again, this time my youngest daughter is also having an RNY, so we will take this journey together.
