WELCOME to MY JOURNEY Spring Summer Fall Winter Profile put together by Sherri Garrett on 6/18/05

Recived my approval letter from OHIP. I was very surprised that I got my approval after the first try. I have my consultation appointment on Tuesday May 31, 2005. Hopefully I will have a surgery date booked by the end of June. I will keep posting!!!!
My initial consult with Dr. Marshall went very well and he provided an even more thorough presentation of what I am about to go through. He said my iron was a littl low so he wants me to load up on iron pills before surgery so that it doesn't cause a problem after surgery. He also wants me to go off of birth control right away so that we can cut down the risk of blood clots even more. My Dave wasn't too thrilled with the idea of having to use condoms like he did in high school. Unfortunately we don't really have a choice as we are still newlyweds and abstaining from sex is not really an option. Anyway, as I ramble on about rubbers that was the only concern Dr. Marshall had about anything that was discussed. So, now I play the waiting game again and anxiously await my approval letter for surgery so that we can get this show on the road. I am so ready to do this. I will keep you posted about the progress as it slowly happens here in Canada !!! I will be back in about a month or so with great news I hope !!!!
I got a phone call from Paula at Livelite today and I have been approved for surgery. I wasn't expecting the good news so soon. Paula told me that mine was the fastest approval she has ever received from OHIP yet. I got approved only 2 days after my consultation. My poor mom has been waiting for 5 weeks for her second approval. I almost feel guilty. I know I have to stop feeling that way. I am going to call Dr. Marshall's office tomorrow to book my date. Taa Taa for now and I will keep you posted as to what surgery date I get !!!
Hi everyone, I am in a bit of disbelief still, that I am going to go through with this life changing experience in like 6 weeks. I have a surgery date scheduled for August 1, 2005 at 10:30 am. I am so excited. I don't want to wait that long, I want it done tomorrow so that I can start living my life again. If anyone has any questions about OHIP or anything to do with my surgery , please email me and I will be glad to answer any questions you may have. I will update frequently, I promise !!!!
Today marks 3 days before my mom's surgery so please everyone pray for her so that she has a speedy recovery because I am only 2 weeks later and I want her to feel better by then. We could use all the support we can get !!!
Well, today is about 10 days prior to my surgery. My mom is 7 days post op and not really enjoying herself. She is really really nauseated a lot of the time. She did really well in the hospital but when she went home she sort of went a little downhill. Dr. Marshall told her to go back on complete liquids and to try soft solids a couple of days later. She starts that today. We will see how she does. Now I am really nervous about mine. I wish I would've had surgery first now that I hear horror stories. Oh well !!! God doesn't throw anything at us that we can't handle right !!! I will update soon ....
Hi there, it is the day before my surgery and let me tell you, I am not having fun with this whole bowel cleanse thing I have to do before surgery. My ass is on fire !!!! And I am not kidding, it is literally on fire I swear..... By this time tomorrow I will be on the other side and doing fine I hope. I am freaking out a little bit this week. My poor husband is going to divorce me I swear. I am really emotional and I can't help it. I wonder if that is normal ? So wish me luck everyone and I will update as soon as I can. My mom is doing great so far. 2 weeks post op and 22 lbs down. God, I can't wait for that to happen !!! I will update as soon as I am able to sit at my computer !!!
Well, I am exactly 2 weeks post op and I feel pretty good. The first week was rough. I thought I was going to die. I had a lot of gas pains from the surgery. Unfortunatley I couldn't keep anything down for the first 7 days. I went to Dr. Marshall's for my check up and had my staples removed and my drain out and then it was like a switch was flipped and I instantly felt 100 times better. Now I am on the other side and losing steadily. I go for walks everyday and I eat at least every 3 hours. I am down 29 lbs in 2 weeks and I can't even believe it. I still get tired easily but I guess that goes with the whole surgery thing. I will keep updating. Taa Taa for now.....

Today is the one year anniversary that I married the man of my dreams !!! I can't believe all that has happened in the last year. I have lost 46 lbs forever on this roller coaster called my life !!! I am slowly introducing some solid food into my diet. I am however not tolerating very well these days. It will take time. I feel really good, I just really have to remember to eat slowly and chew well. If I do those things I tolerate food a whole lot better. I don't go back to see Dr. Marshall till December now and by then if I keep going at this rate I will be down another 30 lbs or not !!! I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch right !!! I will update soon TTFN ......
Well, I am doing pretty good lately. I have finally figured out how to eat. It is very very important to take your time while eating. Like an hour or so. I have been chewing chewing chewing and taking my time and I can tolerate just about anything. It took me like 2 months to figure this out, but I finally did. I have always been a slow learner :)..... I have 55 lbs gone forever and I feel great. I am walking 2 or 3 miles everyday and I actually look forward to it !!!!! I will update later. TTFN

bitch to some but I think you have another side

HI everyone, I am in town for a few days so I thought I would update my profile. I am down 64 lbs in 10 weeks. It seems really hard to believe that I am losing at an excellent pace. I have been feeling sort of queesy for the past couple of days so I thought maybe I would consciously drink more. Maybe I am a bit dehydrated. I know I have to start taking my iron on a more regular basin as I feel a little bit sluggish. I am supposed to return to work in a couple of weeks and I am not looking forward to that. I kinda like being at home. Anyways, I hope everyone is doing good and if anyone has any questions please don't hesitate to email me. TTFN

Down another 10 lbs in 1 week I can't believe what 40 minutes of walking 5 days a week does for someone !!! I am so pleased with the results of this that I actually look forward to it !!! TTFN

Well a lot has happened since I last posted. We have moved to another city and I am in the process of trying to find a job now. I am still losing at a pretty good pace. I really need to start to get back walking on a regular basis. I now down 82 lbs in almost 4 months. I will keep everyone posted with my progress.....

Hi everybody, it has been a really long time since I last updated my profile. I have been pretty busy with moving and all. Christmas was really good and I am now down to 220 lbs. That is a 94 lb loss since August 1, 2005 when I had my surgery. I just went shopping and I bought size 16 jeans. I don't think I ever bought size 16 clothes before. It is so much more fun shopping when the clothes actually fit you. I fit into Old Navy pants and I have never been able to do that before. I feel really good, I do have my days though. Some days I can eat better than others. I hope every one has a great new year and I will post again in the New Year .......

I have finally got a job, so that I can get out of the house and start interacting with people again. I really love it. It is not like anything I have ever done. The pay isn't great, but at least it a job I enjoy which is something I have never experienced. I will keep you posted what is going on with me. I am actually down 109 lbs in less than 6 months. Yee haw for me.....

I have been losing pretty slowly these days, but I guess its par for the course. Your body has to catch up sometime. I think 130 Lbs in 10 months is pretty impressive. I feel really good, and I am into a size 14 pants and XL to L top depending on the style. I am so glad I decided to do this. A year ago I would never have done half the things I do now. Take care and good luck to everyone who comes across my profile.

I am losing at a very slow pace these days. I guess that's expected when we lose so fast the first year. It is bound to catch up to us eventually. My husband and I are moving again in the fall. We got a really nice apartment in the downtown core of Kitchener. This new place has a balcony for Roxie, so she can go outside and bark at the birds !!!! I am not looking forward to moving again, not so much fun to move all of your sh**#t again !!!! It is my one year anniversary on Tuesday, and I am down 136 Lbs. I feel really really good. It will be much easier to pack things up and move this time around I'm sure !!! Take care and I will likely post again in a few months. TTFN

Surgeon Info:
Surgeon: Keith N. Marshall D.O., F.A.C.O.S
Dr Marshall is a wonderful surgeon and I am so happy with what he did for my mom and myself. He is very clot conscious which is good I think. Dr. Marshall's office staff are great ladies. They will answer any questions that you may have. I have to say that Dr. Marshall is a very bust man and at our last appointment we were there just short of 2 hours only seeing him for 20 minutes at the most. He is very specific about the vitamin supplements you should be taking and expresses the importance of regular excercise. Both his surgical competence and bedside manner are excellent. NO complaints here.
Insurer Info:
OHIP
We don't really deal with OHIP at all. Your family doctor must fill out the necessary paperwork and then fax it to the OHIP office. I don't think they really stall. It just takes them a long time to get through all of the referrals. They are constantly getting referrals. Actually I think they take longer if there is persistence present. Make sure your doctor is very thorough in filling out the initial forms.
